5 Different Scandinavian Looks, 10 Beautiful Singapore Homes

Scandinavian home design’s mantra is anchored in simplicity, minimalism and functionality. When you build on these fundamentals, there are endless possibilities to tweak and discover a Scandinavian home design to suit your personality best. Here are our 5 takes on Scandinavian home design, with secondary cues, that are sure to set your home apart.

###1. Industrial Scandinavian
The secondary design cues, you will notice, are not alien elements to the primary. They are in most instances a tasteful exaggeration of one element that help the home heighten its primary character.

i. Our first example is a great way to start off. Notice how this home boasts solid white walls throughout, with contrasting dark electrical fixtures on the ceilings. The home’s character is boosted with the use of large central pieces of furniture in otherwise bare rooms. We especially adore that bold red couch in the living room set atop an unfinished floor.

2. Scandinavian Minimalist

The minimal home design isn’t necessarily the lack of, but rather doing more with less. Often a solitary element is repeated across rooms for a unifying effect.

iii. A home with simple white walls can be elevated with chic treatments with light wood-toned furniture. Being the only two major design elements used, they set the home in harmony as you move from room to room.

3. Scandinavian

The use of wood furniture is a great way to draw cues to the Scandinavian theme for your home. However the use of the same woods on floors and even wall surfaces can really transform a home.

v. Dark wood panels on the walls of the living room and kitchen are in stark contrast to the pale wood flooring used in the study room. Even with furniture of various styles used, the home really ties in together as a result of the wooden surfaces used across.

vi. While white walls are the classic choice for the Scandinavian themed home, dark walls mixed with gentle grey ones also draw from the colour palette available to us. Again, to bring the rooms together, mixtures of dark and pale woods are used here on the floors and furniture.

The last of our approaches, is for the home owners who are most adventurous with their décor ideas. Take classic elements from the Scandinavian home design book and add pages from other design approaches to create a look that borderline on breaking rules. When this is thoughtfully done, the overall creates a home with great breadth of character.

viiii. Start with white walls and add layers to a home by borrowing ideas from a variety of design concepts - with retro furnishings, dark woody furniture, and eye catching splashes of color in the details all around.
