Renovation Budget Hacks

To give new homeowners a better idea of how much you may need to set aside for renovation budget, we have created this infographic on the average renovation spending in Singapore based on different property districts.

Here are some tips to help you achieve your dream home without breaking the bank:

1. Set a budget and stick to it: Many Singaporean couples find it hard to rein in their spending, causing them to be swarmed by expenses that are well beyond their means. While a designer sofa is always nice to have, only buy it if you can afford it. The very first thing you need to do is work out how much cash and loan you have to spend, and stick to it.

2. Allocate your budget and keep track of where your money is going:
Once you have a budget in mind, allocate it to different categories, such as renovation, fittings (e.g. sanitary, lights, and smart switches), furnishings, and electronics and appliances. Keep a close eye on your spending per category to make sure you don’t overspend.

3. Manage your expectations: After setting and allocating budget, be realistic with what you can do and buy with it. With a small budget, you won’t be able to ask your interior designer for the moon and the stars. You can still get a beautiful home with a tighter budget, but you need to know your limits before you can work around it.
