Without having to break down any walls, you can easily make a small room appear larger as well as spectacular. So much so that you are likely to forget that the room was super tiny to begin with! All it takes are just a few interior hacks – as below – to create not only that illusion of space but also designer worthy.
Use the same colour but in different tones
Colours come in handy when you want to enhance the size, look and feel of your room. Painting all surfaces in the same colour but different tones help to make it appear larger. Try painting your ceiling in a lighter shade to make it appear higher. Then use the deepest tone near the floor to create that optical illusion of space. Choose a cool colour like blue or green.
Showcase with statement pieces
Think designer chairs, awesome lights, art pieces – anything that will wow your guests the minute they spot it! The key here is to curate what’s not necessary and to showcase with a statement piece of furniture. For example, a unique lounge chair or a large sofa will draw attention away from the lack of space and create an instant wow effect.
Mirror, mirror on the wall
The quickest way to make a room appear larger! You don’t need multiple mirrors; pick one that is outstanding so that it also doubles up as a statement piece. Or choose an oversized full-length mirror to prop it up against a wall. You can also hang multiple smaller mirrors randomly for a cool effect. Think of frames too – something vintage-ish lends character to your room.
Multifunctional furniture pieces
When your room is small, you don’t have the luxury of decorating with all sorts of furniture. Which is why multifunctional pieces work the best in this situation. Invest in a furniture that doubles, triples up as something else. Like a vintage trunk that you can use as storage or table – functional and stylish!
Go monochromatic
Keep it simple – a monochromatic colour scheme like white on beige throughout will make any room appear bigger. This applies to your furniture as well. You can use different shades or textures to create more impact.
