No architectural element adds drama quite like a double-height ceiling. It is usually twice as tall as the ceilings in single-height rooms, creating a spacious feel and significantly more natural light. For some, double-height interiors are the pinnacle of elegance, evoking luxury and grandeur.

If your house is blessed with this type of architecture, here are some ways you can take advantage of these open and airy interiors to create amazing living spaces that are excellent for lounging or entertaining guests!

1. A compact yet spacious living room on the East Coast

Despite its compact size, this living room feels bright and airy thanks to the double-height ceiling and large window panel that create a feel of sitting in a large room. The designer installed floor-to-ceiling motorised drapes to cover the glass windows, allowing the homeowner to control the amount of light that enters the room.

Visitors' attention is automatically pulled to the drapes, which prompts them to glance up and notice the wooden panelled ceiling and the exquisite pendant lighting. Meanwhile, the turquoise and bright orange chairs offset the neutral tones of this space.

2. An villa-like living room in Cheras

One of the unique features of this double-height living room is the vaulted ceiling adorned with a collection of spherical lighting fixtures that ensures the ambient light cast by the fixtures is evenly distributed across the entire room.

Meanwhile, the tall glass panels and windows provide sun-filled exposure to the room and allow the homeowner to enjoy the incredible outdoor space. This include a lap pool that looks stunning when viewed from the living room and a veranda that allows the homeowners to enjoy the panoramic outdoor greenery even when sitting indoors.

3. A cosy and laid-back living room in Setia Alam

This living area has a cosy and warm atmosphere thanks to the double-height ceiling and french glass windows that open up the space and connect it to the outdoor environment. The tall ceiling is adorned with geometric iron pendant lights, which keep the area from looking empty and unfinished.

The choice of soft and neutral tones makes the room appear inviting and creates a sense of harmony in the space. The designer also added low furniture to foster comfort when relaxing in the living room while accentuating the sheer height of the space.

4. A nature-inspired living room in Bukit Tunku

Upon entering this home, guests are instantly taken by the nature-inspired double-height living area, which features large windows (that offer sun-filled exposures), wooden wall panelling, and a plethora of tall plants. These elements complement the earthy tones, which give the space a relaxing vibe.

The designer also used a variety of natural materials for the furniture to establish consistency throughout the area. The wooden coffee table and bench, as well as the beige sofa, when paired with the lush external vista and splashes of greenery on the interior, create an uplifting and welcoming ambience which is perfect for entertaining guests!
