Think of the best hotel suite you have stayed in. The light was right when you walked in, the shades closed quietly, and you never had to think about how. In many of the world’s finest hotels, that effortlessness runs on Lutron.
Ryan Hong, Sales Director of New Way, found the opposite at home. His first smart home system was unreliable and hard to use, and his search for something better led him to Lutron, a US-based brand known for intuitive lighting and shading control. Switching made everyday living noticeably more seamless for him and his family, and convinced him that more Malaysian homeowners should experience the same.
Today, homeowners in the Klang Valley can walk through a complete Lutron smart home before deciding what belongs in theirs.

1. From five-star hotels to a smart home you can experience
In a Lutron room, the lighting and shading are designed to disappear, so all you notice is that the room feels right. Lutron is the lighting and shading control behind renowned hotels such as Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok and Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris.
“When we first brought Lutron into the Malaysian market, we didn’t realise that there was already demand for this type of high-end smart home system. We were surprised to discover that many high-profile clients were already familiar with the brand,” says Ryan.
To show what a Lutron home feels like, New Way has set up a two-floor showroom, the Lutron Experience Center, where visitors can experience the system firsthand. Lighting, shades, audio and climate work as one, programmed to suit different routines and moods.

Lutron Experience Center in Puncak Alam, Selangor
The Lutron Experience Center is currently the only Luxury Lutron Experience Center in Malaysia to showcase the complete Lutron shading range.
The experience is brought to life across eight fully designed spaces, which include a welcome area, family lounge, kitchen and pantry, bathroom, living room, hotel suite, fabric and light studio, and an outdoor living space.
2. One touch on the keypad, and the room is already set
The experience begins the moment you step inside, where each room is designed to feel more like a lived-in home than a showroom. In the Welcome area, a single press on the keypad brings the lighting, shades, music and temperature together for your arrival. This is what Lutron calls a scene, where a whole room’s settings are saved to one button.

According to Ryan, “When you look at a smart home with a tablet, it can seem impressive at first. But if you have to spend a lot of time pressing and swiping just to control something simple, it takes away from the experience.
“The Lutron keypads and controllers are very straightforward. You don’t have to spend too much time figuring out how to turn things on and off. You can also pre-program and customise the keypads, including engraving the buttons, so you know exactly what each one does,” he adds.

In the Family Lounge, the focus is light itself. Four tunable-white ceiling panels shift from warm and dimmed to cool daylight, so the same room can feel bright and clear for conversation with Focus, warm and soft with Relax, or dark enough for a film with Projector.

The projection screen is itself a Lutron roller shade. It comes down for a film and rolls away quietly afterwards, leaving the room open and uncluttered.

In the kitchen, the overhead shading does the heavy lifting. Tensioned sunscreen shades meet in the middle beneath the ceiling light panel, cutting heat and glare like a skylight with its own shade, while tunable-white light shifts from crisp morning tones to a warm evening glow.

From breakfast to dinner with guests, the Morning, Cook, Party and Night scenes set the kitchen’s lighting at a single press, so no one has to reach for a switch.

In the Living Room, the point is flexibility. Four scenes, Family, Relax, Movie and Party, turn one space into a gathering room, a quiet retreat, a private cinema or a party. For Movie, the curved drapery and an overhead blackout shade close as the lights dim, and the room becomes a home theatre in seconds.

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that you only need a control system if you live in a big house. In reality, it can be just as useful in a small condo, where space is limited and every area needs to serve multiple purposes,” says Ryan.
3. The bedroom that behaves like the suite you remember
The bedroom is designed to feel like a luxury hotel suite. After all, what makes a great hotel room so enjoyable is how little you have to think about it. You don’t need to figure out which keypad controls the lights or get out of bed just to close the drapery. Everything is within easy reach.

The showroom demonstrates this with a keypad positioned right beside the bed. From here, you can control the wall lights, bedside lighting, table lamp, shades and even the music. Everything can be managed from this single control point, including the blackout shades and sheer shades that layer to suit the mood.
The room can also be set up for different moments throughout the day. A “Privacy” scene can close the blackout shades and drapery completely, while the “Relax” scene can dim the lighting to create a more restful atmosphere. For winding down with a book, the “Reading” scene brings more focused light to the sofa reading area while keeping the rest of the room softly lit.

4. Silence is the part a spec sheet cannot show you
The difference often lies in the details. Shades glide quietly and settle in a perfectly even line, and the controls blend naturally into the room. These subtle details define true luxury, yet a brochure can rarely show them. At the Experience Center, you can hear the difference and see it across a whole run of shades.
Integration is the other half. In the Bathroom Retreat, a Lutron Triathlon roller shade, a sheer and a wooden blind share one window. One press of the Chill scene closes the wooden blind and the roller shade together and brings the light down to a candlelit calm.

Room by room, you see the complete Lutron shading range at work, from sheers and blackouts to tensioned shades, curved drapery and layered combinations, all running live.
5. The best time to plan your smart home is before the ceiling goes up
One of the costliest mistakes homeowners can make is thinking about a smart home system only after the renovation plans have been finalised. With Lutron, details such as shade pockets, conduit and motor positions need to be considered early, before the ceiling is closed up.

Ideally, it’s something you should discuss at the beginning of your home construction process. New Way will work alongside the homeowner’s design team from the early stages, to help plan how the system can be integrated into the home. Homeowners are welcome to bring their interior designer or architect to the Experience Center, where a specialist can walk through how the systems sit within the architecture.
The team will also work directly with the main contractor, providing the 3D layout drawings to show where wiring points and other components need to go. This means everything can be planned properly before the ceiling goes up, rather than having to make costly changes later.
Once everything has been installed, the team checks the work before the ceiling is closed. And the support doesn’t end once you move in. As your home evolves, additional features can be programmed and integrated, such as air-conditioning and background music.
Fabric is part of the same early decision. In the Fabric and Light Studio, New Way’s curtain and roller fabrics sit under tunable light that shifts from warm evening tones to cool daylight, so you can choose a fabric in the light it will actually live in.

6. 45 minutes, by appointment, and the rooms are set for you
Homeowners who are renovating or building a home in the Klang Valley are welcome to experience a Lutron smart home firsthand at the Lutron Experience Center.
Located in Puncak Alam, Selangor, the Lutron Experience Center is open by appointment, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, and Saturday, 10am to 2pm. Visits take about 45 minutes. During the visit, a New Way specialist will discuss your project and the rooms, systems and fabrics that suit your space. There is no on-site purchase. After the visit, New Way prepares a tailored proposal, and a dedicated site manager oversees measurement, installation and commissioning.

Ultimately, the Lutron Experience Center is an opportunity to see and, more importantly, feel what a well-integrated smart home can be like. The best technology doesn’t compete for your attention. It simply works quietly in the background, making everyday living feel a little more effortless.

Q: What if my ceiling is already closed?
If your ceiling is already closed, New Way offers wireless and retrofit options that preserve most of the experience, though not everything an early, fully planned installation allows.
If you’re unsure what’s possible, you can bring your floor plan or renovation drawings to the showroom. A specialist can look through your layout and advise on how Lutron could work within your existing space.
About New Way
New Way is an authorised Lutron fabricator and Renson partner, offering integrated shading and smart home solutions for residential and commercial spaces.
While New Way became an authorised Lutron fabricator in 2022, its expertise in shading spans more than three decades. Established in 1993, the company has manufactured shading solutions for homes across Malaysia and Singapore.
What distinguishes New Way is its end-to-end approach. Every product comes with New Way’s five-year warranty, with after-sales support provided to ensure the system continues to perform as intended.
The company also takes a holistic approach to shading, bringing together indoor and outdoor solutions as part of a cohesive design. Indoors, its solutions centre around Lutron’s smart shading systems, while Renson’s tropical shading solutions are designed for outdoor spaces. By offering both under one roof, New Way can help create a more seamless look and experience across the property, with consistent attention to design, functionality and quality.
