Easy Ways to Maintain an Overused Kitchen

January 13, 2017

Let’s face it - cooking is a messy process. If you are someone who cooks daily, chances are that your kitchen will require periodical cleaning in order to constantly look fresh and grease-free. Cleaning is the only downside to cooking at home, and neglecting it will only result in a dirty and disheveled kitchen which might pose a risk to your family in the long run.
Here’s how you can create a safe cooking environment while keeping your kitchen looking polished at all times:

Clear the counter

It is inevitable for a kitchen to become cluttered over time. A messy kitchen tends to be inefficient and difficult to work in, so it is important to frequently organize pots and containers after each use. Start by grouping similar items, filling only things you need into the drawers, and throwing out broken appliances and chipped crockery. Cracks and cervices in dishes are breeding grounds for bacteria which can contaminate your food, so getting rid of them is a must.

Avoid moisture

Kitchen cabinets are a hefty investment, making it necessary for you to keep it looking great over the long haul. As a tip, keep your kitchen dry and free from humidity as moisture can drastically shorten the lifespan of the cabinets, especially those made from wood. The components will start to decompose when continuously exposed to water, even if they have been coated with paint.

Clean sink area

A quick cleaning of the sink once a day can keep it free from dirt and bacteria, which is crucial if you wash raw meat and fresh produce in it. Once you are done cooking and washing the dishes, go over the sink with a sponge using adequate amount of detergent and rinse soap off. For tough stains, consider using lukewarm water and commercial surface cleaner for higher efficiency.

Clean stovetop after each use

Cleaning a stovetop is easier than you think – it only requires dishwashing liquid and water! After cooking, simply clean greasy areas using a sponge drenched in diluted dishwashing liquid. The dirt will be loosened after a few scrubs, while the soapy residue can be wiped away with a wet cloth. The same method can be applied to the inside of an oven and microwave, too.

If you are one who cooks daily, cleaning your kitchen will not only keep it in a top-notch condition, but it also contributes to your family’s health and well-being. Using the tips above, create a clean and safe space that you will look forward to cooking in every day!
