How To Make Your Bedroom Feel Like A Luxury Hotel

December 10, 2020

While you might not be able to travel to your favourite hotel at the moment, there’s no reason why you can’t recreate the same relaxing hotel vibe in your own bedroom. In fact, turning your bedroom into a luxury hotel suite is actually a whole lot easier than you might think!

Here we’ll share with you a few handy tips to help you create a relaxing atmosphere and make your bedroom just as sumptuous as any luxury hotel room. This way, you can unwind as though you're checking into the Ritz every single day, all within the comforts of your own space. Fair warning: you might never want to check out at all!

1. Make your bed every morning and get rid of unnecessary clutter

Whenever you stay in a hotel, it’s always great to walk into freshly laundered sheets, and a well-curated, clutter-free decor. So spare a few minutes in the morning to make up your bed and keep your bedding clean by changing your bed sheets at least once a week.

You should also spare some time to declutter your room by getting rid of everything you don't need and keep unsightly knick-knacks, cables or spare wires hidden from sight. You’ll be amazed at just how much of a difference it makes to simply tidy up your bedroom!

Bonus Tip: The presentation of your bed is important to replicate the feel of those luxury hotels. To achieve this, layer a thin blanket or comforter between two starched sheets. Not only does this technique create a hotel-worthy bed that feels crisp and clean, but it’s also very cost-effective and easy to achieve. Add plush throw pillows and a soft blanket to complete the look.

2. Create different bedroom 'zones'

You might have noticed that hotel rooms often have separate functional areas within their space. Commonly, there's a sleeping area featuring a bed and bedside tables; a reading area featuring an armchair and a reading lamp, and a work area featuring a desk and an office chair.

With any room size, you can replicate the same look by dividing your room into separate zones for sleeping, grooming, working, reading, etc. This will enable you to enjoy an easier walking flow, and design-wise helps to maintain a sleeker look overall.

3. Cosy up with incandescent lighting

Do you realise that it’s harder to sleep with the lights on? Well, that’s because bright lights halt the production of sleep-inducing melatonin on your body, making it more difficult for you to fall and stay asleep.

That’s why hotels often use dim, warm lighting over stark-white, fluorescent ones to promote better sleep. So swap your usual bright lights for a softer illumination; layer lighting with tall, upward-facing lamps, bedside lamps as well as wall lights to dramatically improve the ambience in your bedroom.

Best of all, lampshades vary in style, so you can go ahead and pick one to mesh with your overall theme! Hotels tend to go simple with lampshades, often choosing neutral-toned fabrics with pleats for maximum softness and ambience.

Bonus Tip: Block-coloured curtains are easier to match and are more calming than ones with heavy prints. Look for thicker materials, so you can block sunlight and enjoy a slow, lazy morning during the weekend!

4. Try wallpapering your bedroom

If you’re up for a little more dramatic transformation, fancy walls are the way to go. Since design options are aplenty, you can use wallpaper to easily replicate your favourite hotel room or simply match the current décor of your room.

An easy option would be to choose neutrals such as tan, beige or cream, or gentle pastels in light pink or peach. For a period look, try florals or regal textures like silk or velvet. Avoid cooler white tones though, as these can take your room away from the cosy theme.

5. Don’t forget the details

Finally, don’t forget about the details! Luxury hotels typically have a few tiny touches that make their guests feel pampered throughout their stay. For example, you can consider swapping your sweats for a plush robe, set out slippers, leave a glass and a water carafe on the bedside table and chocolates on the bed.

To make your bedroom smell as good as a luxury hotel, spritz a calming lavender scent on your bedroom pillows and diffuse some honeydew, cedarwood, rose, or clove essential oils to fill the room with rich aromas that help make your luxury hotel dream feel more like reality!
