A handy list of Singapore design firms, plus the mid-mod homes that they’ve created.
There’s plenty to like about the mid-century modern (MCM) style: It’s clean, stylish, and most importantly, timeless. Despite having its roots in the mid-1940s, this aesthetic still enjoys enduring popularity today, mostly thanks to its iconic design characteristics that appeal to – dare we say it, modern sensibilities.
And if you’re a to-be homeowner who’d love a highly sophisticated dwelling filled with natural wood textures, classic furnishings, and yesteryear charm – then look no further. Below, we share our list of Singapore-based interior design firms that feature appealing MCM homes in their portfolio!
1. Ethereall
Helmed by a team of young, creative designers, Ethereall is one of the local interior design firms that are experienced in designing a mid-century modern home. Their dedication to creating a home that’s both fresh and function shows in this resale flat in Mountbatten.
Here, you’ll find saturated colour accents like deep greens and mustard yellows, bringing life to all corners of the home while providing a vibrant contrast to the wood tones that are common in mid-century modern interiors.
You’ll also note that every piece of furnishings have been carefully selected – from chairs with the iconic hairpin legs to light fittings in geometric shapes.

2. ELPIS Interior Design
While it always isn’t easy to put a contemporary spin on classic design features, ELPIS Interior Design’s work on this 113 sqm HDB flat proves that it’s an accomplishable undertaking given some creativity and understanding of a home’s layout.
Vintage wood panelling is traditionally utilised as wall cladding in MCM homes, but here it’s been put to use by ELPIS to create a façade for hidden doorways between the dining area and the kitchen as well as the master bedroom and its adjoining en suite.
It also helps that these panels make the perfect backdrop for the home’s classic MCM furniture, including a (really) handsome pencil-legged dining set!
Brimming with classic details like intense colours, wired glass and wooden built-ins, this characterful BTO apartment at Telok Blangah truly channels the MCM look, and it’s all thanks to the nuanced introduction of evergreen design elements to every nook and corner of the flat by the Versaform team.
Without overwhelming contemporary features – such as a newly-built cement screed feature wall embedded with brass strips in the living room – Versaform was able to turn a ‘blank slate’ into a cosy space that’s outfitted with all manner of vintage furniture pieces. 4. Authors • Interior & Styling
Specialising in bringing imaginative concepts to life, Authors • Interior & Styling is no stranger to the local interior design scene and they’ve got a polished portfolio of renovated homes to show. Naturally, that includes this charming MCM-themed condo apartment which oozes plenty of classic appeal.
By embracing all sorts of MCM details (as opposed to just using them as accents), Authors was able to give this 85 sqm abode a dark, almost moody look that perfectly replicates the feel of a home from the fifties.
Joining the plethora of staple MCM design elements, like old-school furniture and wood tones, is an arguably more contemporary platform bed that provides extra storage space – a must-have for current-day life.
It’s no surprise that the MCM vibes are strong in this Tampines BTO flat that Ascend Design renovated. After all, they’re a team that believes in the importance of creating comfortable, pleasing homes that balance form with function.
No matter your aesthetic preferences, this home's clean lines, geometric shapes (peep the open shelving that is put in place of a regular TV feature wall!) and swaths of colours are sure to capture your attention.

7. Fifth Avenue Interior
Even at a cursory glance, one can tell that plenty of thought was put into the creation of this MCM-themed 4-room flat, which Fifth Avenue Interior was responsible for.
First off, there’s the living room’s seating area (impeccably decorated with mid-mod furnishings, monochrome blinds, and chic herringbone floor) which we’re sure is the best place in the house to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea while enjoying an episode of ‘Mad Men’…
… then there’s the dining area located right behind the living area – a compact, but charming space that stays true to the timeless appeal of MCM design with its bespoke curvilinear dining table/island and rattan-backed high chairs!
