A BTO with a Touch of a Modern Hotel Vibe for Under $40,000

October 10, 2018

Having received the keys to their BTO flat, the couple were looking forward to living in a warm, cosy abode. They left pretty much to the capable designer, Sebrina, from Aestherior to handle the renovation design, making their renovation journey a breezy one.

About the home design

Mei Ping (MP): We told Sebrina we wanted a cosy, modern home, with a little of the hotel-inspired home, and she took into her own hands, deciding how to convey the look and mood. She proposed dark colours and we were a little skeptical initially that the house will look too dark, but she managed to convince us otherwise.

Our brief to her was really simple; apart from the aesthetic, we told her some of the lifestyle needs and wants, like to conceal the household shelter, and she designed a shoe cabinet and a cubby hole to store our daily miscellaneous items.

About the interior designer

Gim Yuen (GY): We met about 5-6 designers and Sebrina stood out the most as she made the effort to sketch out our concept for us to visualise, and zoomed into the finer design details. We thought it was really thoughtful and meticulous of her as these are details that first-time homeowners may overlook. For example, we wanted a sliding door for the kitchen entrance, but she counter proposed a swing door as it’s easier to pull and push when your hands are full rather than having to slide open with a knob. Plus, she reminded us on areas to look out for when buying appliances.

We like the open interaction, felt comfortable and she’s really responsive. Communication and response time were factors that are important to us, and we’re definitely puzzled why some IDs took a few weeks in their follow-up.

About the renovation process

MP: It was pretty fuss-free when we really left it to Sebrina to research and propose the ideas to us. When it comes to material selection, she narrowed down a couple of swatches from the catalogues from her showroom and we decided from there. Sebrina shared with us on stores we can get our furniture, lights, appliances as we were pretty clueless, and we settled within a day. Overall, it was a pretty fuss-free process and she delivered what we wanted. The workmanship is great too.

Their furniture buys

MP: The sofa is from X’clusive Home, and the coffee and dining table were from Style Living.

Favourite corner at home

GY: Definitely the living area - it’s a comfy place for us to catch up on our dramas.
