Best Home Styles for Your Zodiac Sign, As Told by a Fengshui Master

We all know what our respective Chinese zodiac signs are, as well as their corresponding traits. But did you know that there are different interior styles believed to be the most suitable for each sign?

Below, we got Jacelyn Phang, the 2nd generation master from Fengshui consultancy Yuan Zhong Siu, to tell us the recommended home aesthetic for every zodiac sign, and why!

1. Rabbit: neat, clutter-free styles with blue/black accents

Seen as kind, caring, and loyal individuals, Rabbits also tend to be on the introverted side. They often need lots of alone time at home to recharge – and because of this, Master Jacelyn recommends going with a simple clutter-free style that maximises the soothing vibes.

One example of such a style is the Japanese MUJI-inspired theme, where simplicity and warmth reign supreme. For a pop of colour, try adding hints of ‘water’ in the form of blue or black-coloured accents, as they will help rejuvenate the Rabbit’s spirits.

2. Dragon: eclectic styles

People born in the year of the Dragon are known to be bold, innovative, and adventurous, with a strong sense of individuality. As such, it’s really no surprise that the recommended interior style is eclectic!

Free from boundaries and rules, this particular brand of interior design is the perfect backdrop for Dragons to show off their vibrant personalities. On top of that, the prominent warm colours are also said to evoke a sense of harmony, since they complement the Dragon’s strong presence.

3. Snake: nature-themed spaces

Those born in the year of the Snake tend to be witty, sociable, and strong-willed. They’re also likely to be ambitious – so to soothe their competitive spirits, they're better off going with a simple, nature-inspired theme for its calming atmosphere.

An example of this is the Japandi interior design style. With its clean lines, nature-inspired colours, and bright spaces, it’s especially reminiscent of nature, which is particularly soothing. As such, Horses should go with muted, understated colours within their home. Styles like the classic Scandinavian tend to favour pale woods like ash and beech, and can have especially calming effects on the Horse’s outgoing persona.

If Horses are the social butterflies of the Chinese zodiac, Goats are the exact opposite. They’re on the quieter side, with mellow, gentle personalities that can appear meek to outsiders.

To bring them out of their shells, choose a warm, cosy aesthetic, with lots of natural textures. Styles that fit into these criteria include the modern farmhouse, where the warm wood tones and inviting atmosphere is especially effective in making Goats feel right at home.

6. Monkey: earthy, wood-dominated styles

Monkeys are fun-loving, quick-witted creatures, so it’s only natural that those born in the year of the Monkey embody these traits. However, if left unchecked, their prankster tendencies can go too far – which is why their best option is a style dominated with wooden tones, which helps keep them grounded.

Pigs are typically genuine, easygoing, and independent – but they are also easily stressed about their life. That’s why they’ll need a home that is especially calming – and what’s more calming than an ever-classic minimalist home?

Dominated by subdued colours, natural light, and clean lines, minimalist homes aren’t just visually-pleasing. They’re also well-organised, with clearly-demarcated spaces and well-organised furnishings, making it the ultimate haven for the magnanimous Pig.

10. Rat: wacky futuristic-looking homes

Hardworking, observant, and intelligent, people born in the year of the Rat typically enjoy learning and picking up new skills regularly.

If you’re one of these people, you need a style that stirs their innate need for knowledge. And what’s more intellectually stimulating than a futuristic home, with its asymmetric lines, metallic accents, and neon lighting?

Why such homes, you ask? For one, the darker colours are said to grant emotional stability. For another, these dark tones tend to be on the cooler side, which acts as a foil to the Tiger’s explosive temper.
