Presenting: 3D mock-ups featuring different interior styles and designs for various lifestyle needs!
With 2,500 units, Rivervale Shores in Sengkang is the largest BTO estate that homeowners will be collecting keys for in 2023! Nearly 43% of the units are 2-room Flexi flats, the majority of which are usually booked by elderly buyers as their retirement homes, and singles wanting a bachelor/bachelorette pad.
While it has faced various delays, the project is estimated to complete by the third quarter of 2023; as with any of you wanting to move into your new home at the earliest opportunity, it’s about time to start planning your flat’s makeover and shortlisting interior designers.

For a 2-room Flexi (Type I) BTO at Rivervale Shores: A sophisticated interior filled with rich textures
Original floorplan for a 2-room Flexi BTO flat (Type I) at Rivervale Shores
Approximate floor area: 38sqm
With Starry Homestead’s conception of this modern luxe bachelor pad, you won’t need to go on staycations anymore! This hotel-like home is all about sleek, uncluttered spaces dressed in rich materials and modern colours.
As a base, the living/dining area incorporates shades of grey and warm brown while more luxurious colours like gold are used as an accent.
The various textures add to the luxurious vibes too, like the upholstered dining chairs, blackout curtains and fluted panelling used for the dry bar/pantry and TV feature wall.
On the topic of blackout curtains, the dense material is also a helpful buffer against noise. This might be a concern since most 2-room stacks in this development are close to the Tampines Expressway exit towards Sengkang and Punggol, which has heavy traffic.
In the kitchen, the glossy finishes, alternating with veined marble, amp up the luxe look.
If you want a low-maintenance kitchen, try a glass backsplash; since it doesn’t have any grout lines, it’s easy to maintain with a simple wipe-down.
When you can’t make a home physically bigger, do it visually instead. With a low-height bed and floor-to-ceiling carpentry that makes the space look taller, this bedroom looks extra spacious.
Unlike in the other rooms, the bedroom uses more wood tones for both the carpentry and the flooring for a more restful space.
Much like the other rooms in the home, the bathroom offsets any sense of tightness with a transparent shower enclosure and minimal built-ins; instead of installing a vanity cabinet with the wash basin, there’s a sleek floating shelf below the sink to hold some shower items.

For a 2-room Flexi (Type II) BTO at Rivervale Shores: Clever multi-functional carpentry to maximise space

Approximate floor area: 47sqm
If there’s one thing we can’t get enough of, it’s designs and fixtures that just make sense – and The Makers Design Studio has come up with plenty for this 2-room flat.
Sporting a simple and warm palette with light wood shades for a modern approach, this design embraces an open-concept home with multi-functional carpentry to save on space.
Enter the flat to a household shelter concealed with fluted panels and built-in storage for extra storage space.
The highlight, though, awaits past the foyer: a dining area that is integrated with the study and the TV for a seamless look.
The elongated fixture features the dining space on the right, with space to comfortably seat four, while the study area has some handy built-in drawers.
On the opposite side, you’ll find the TV mounted within the fixture and a niche for displaying decor.
The TV stand doubles as a backboard for the study area too, demarcating the space while still giving it an open feel.
This design actually leaves enough space to fit a wall settee (with even more storage spots) that works as both display space and extra seating if you like to host friends and family.
For a bigger space, you can remove the sliding door between the bedroom and the living room, like in this flat.
With this seamless connection, the TV is directly facing the plush sofa at the end of the bed – perfect for TV time, regardless of where you’re lounging.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, the backsplash breaks up the consistent colour scheme with green subway tiles reminiscent of the estate’s nature-filled spaces.

For a 3-room BTO at Rivervale Shores: A well-planned mix of earthy elements for a statement look

For the more adventurous among you who want to experiment with various styles, here’s inspiration to get you started: this design by 9 Creation layers patterns, textures and shapes for a home with a unique personality.
When it comes to eclectic designs, there’s usually a unifying element – or you risk having a home that just looks like a confusing mish-mash of ideas.
In this home, it’s the earthy palette, inspired by the estate’s green spaces, that pulls everything together for a visually cohesive look.
The foyer and living room walls are painted a deep mustard while the textured accent wall and carpet are in different shades of blue. To complete the look, the couch is a dark green.
The L-shaped kitchen sports a brighter look since you’d need good lighting for cooking – but it comes with forest-green cabinets and a terrazzo backsplash to complement the living room palette.
The shaker style design used for the cabinets adds a classic touch to the space too, compared to the flat-fronted type you’d often see.
The highlight of this bedroom is no doubt the built-in wardrobe, with its intricate and textured designs. Not only does it amplify the cosiness of the room with the dark look, but it also doubles as an eye-catching accent ‘wall’.

For a 4-room BTO at Rivervale Shores: Tranquil open-concept spaces for resting and unwinding
Original floorplan for a 4-room flat at Plantation Acres
Approximate floor area: 94sqm
Emulating the breezy and tranquil feeling you enjoy close to the coast (or in this case, Serangoon Reservoir) with a grand balcony view, this 4-room design by Inizio Atelier veers towards open-concept spaces with minimalist and contemporary influences.
The colour scheme is a simple monochromatic one, with a white base and shades of grey (and occasionally black) as accents, for a space that looks much bigger than its 94 sqm.
If you have a junior bedroom to spare, consider hacking it away like in this design to create a larger and uncluttered living room area.
The dry kitchen also extends to the concealed household shelter, mirroring the peninsula at the entrance to create a galley-style look which makes the space look longer.
While having an unblocked view of the reservoir sounds amazing, make sure you have day and night curtains for privacy; the units with a balcony generally overlook the nearby Sungei Serangoon Park Connector with heavy foot traffic.
Besides maintaining an open look, don’t forget about adding textures to your home with furnishings, like this sofa and its patterned cushions, which break up the clean look.
Like the rest of the home, the bedroom is a no-frills affair, with a simple colour palette and a built-in wardrobe with a neat slot for a vanity.
While such a room could look dull, your lighting choices can transform it into a warm and welcoming space. Mix up cool lighting and warm lighting so you don’t end up with an overly saturated look.
The spacious and inviting master ensuite has a floating washbasin instead of a bulky cabinet for a more airy look, and a neat shower partition. The drop-down to the shower area also helps to physically separate it from the rest of the bathroom.
And in case you didn’t notice the triangular pedestal for holding shower items, it’s a clever idea for making the most of the corner.

For a 5-room BTO at Rivervale Shores: Balance aesthetics with functionality and comfort
Original floorplan for a 5-room flat at Rivervale Shores (left) and proposed floorplan (right)
Approximate floor area: 113sqm
Envisioning a family with young children, Editor Interior designed this spacious 5-room flat with a contemporary flair and a unique study concept that we love.
Instead of a feature wall backing the TV, this home has an impressive glass-enclosed study in the living room! It even has a platform to emulate the feeling of moving into a different space.
Since the enclosed section uses glass, light can flow freely between the spaces without making the space look compact.
Rather than having a fully open-concept kitchen like in the original plan, the wet kitchen is closed off with translucent sliding doors that have a reeded design.
The dark wood laminate used for the dry kitchen/pantry, together with the island’s granite/quartz finishes and gold accents, tie the look together for a refined finish.
In the wet kitchen, the service yard wall was hacked to enlarge it and let light through. Thanks to that, there’s plenty of room for storing appliances; even the smaller spaces like the gap created by the beam are put to good use as storage spots for chopping boards and cookbooks.
This bedroom could rival a boutique hotel interior with its elegant yet snug ambience, balancing more luxurious elements like the glossy veined tiles and luxury bag display with softer textures like the carpet and the headboard.

For a 5-room BTO at Rivervale Shores: Get the best of both worlds with traditional and modern elements
Original floorplan for a 5-room flat at Rivervale Shores (left)
Approximate floor area: 113sqm
Does your 5-room flat at Rivervale Shores have a layout like above, with a more rectangular living/dining space? While it’s different from the usual square-shaped layouts, you’ve got a pretty interesting space to work with.
This design by Fyner Interior proposes shifting the dining area to the entrance, where you can enjoy the view from the window during mealtime.
There’s a convenient nook for a dry pantry too, so you can get drinks ready without having to do it all in the kitchen.
Since the estate is right next to the Sungei Serangoon Park Connector, we hope you’re looking forward to heading out for some fresh air.
If you and your family members cycle often, you could even set up a sleek bicycle storage rack like this for easy access whenever you want to head out.
While originally an open-concept space, the dining area is separated by an open arched door that leads to the living room where you can enjoy the blend of traditional and modern elements that is the highlight of a transitional design style.
Take, for example, the linear built-ins along the feature wall that contrast the curvy furniture and decor while still creating a streamlined effect.
The glossy and modern floor tiles are also distinctly different from the wainscoted walls, but work well together.
In the kitchen, patterns dominate the space for a more traditional and homely feeling. These can be found in the black-and-white geometric tiles lining the wall, and the simpler backsplash that breaks up the blue of the cabinets.
Speaking of which, we love the shiplap style used for the upper cabinet doors.
As you’d have observed, the home’s anchored with neutral colours and calming shades of blue inspired by its waterfront location.
The bedroom is no exception, with a pleasing accent wall that curves at the corners, complementing the soft edges found in other parts of the room – like the furniture and even the ceiling.
