How To Design Your HDB/Condo Bay Window

February 12, 2015

Having a bay window at home is often an unwelcome idea as the plain-looking ledge eats up space. You can’t get rid of it because they are part of the building structure, and you can hardly utilise it.

But being Singaporeans, there's no lack in creativity in turning the ledge into one that is less of an eyesore and functionally stylish. See below for more inspirations!

###Convert to a seat
Sitting by the bedroom chair with a book is passé. Do away with the bedroom chair and lounge by the bay window instead. Plump up with cushions and add seat padding and bask in the sunlight or enjoy the city lights.

For storage / display

Go for low cubbyhole cabinets, or tall display cabinets that slide, hide, or rotate.

While not literally a storage, the homeowner jazzed up the area to make the bay window less of an eyesore and double up as a display unit for the homeowner’s collection of bags.

A sliding storage dresser was erected on top of the ledge by the side window which reveals the mirror or the window; both to brighten the room corner.

###Build a bed over it
Got a good view from the bedroom? Extend the area and build a platform bed above it. A more functional approach would be to add storage facility under the bed.
