For one, it definitely encourages designers to think out-of-the-box - such as these insanely genius, multi-purpose home features! Blending space-saving function with form, suddenly the idea of living in a small space doesn't look as unappealing...

Sometimes, it's not about the space you have, but all that unused space you've yet to maximise. Consider converting dead spaces such as your bay windows, awkward corners or even the undersides of stairs into a cosy nook for reading!
