15 Show-Stopping Homes with High Ceilings That Make Us Want One Too

October 21, 2022

Lofty homes with lofty designs.

Keeping it real: most of us can only dream of having a grand home with sky-high ceilings.

It doesn’t help that homes are getting smaller, what with our land-scarce Little Red Dot, which makes finding properties like maisonettes and lofts akin to looking for a needle in a haystack.

A very competitive haystack.

That doesn’t stop us from feasting on these stunning high ceiling looks we’ve found though!

If you’ve ever wondered how high curtains can go for a high ceiling… The answer is as high as they can!

To really bring out the high ceiling, the owners of this penthouse chose to go with full-height curtains, and chose a solid colour to complement the various textured furnishings in the room.

4. A stunning HDB loft with sky-high windows

With a home like this, we’d be gazing out the windows all the time!

The owners of this HDB loft (a very rare property type!) draped the double-height windows with a regular-height curtain for visual interest, allowing moonlight to filter in from the windows at the top at night.

As they say, less is more – and in the case of this maisonette, keeping the decor simple helps to frame the excellent view that the balcony with its high ceiling provides.

Plus, it makes use of the natural light coming in, with furniture placed close together to amplify the cosy feel.

The owner of this home went all in with floor-to-ceiling carpentry to make the most of its limited floor area!

You can see how this seamless floor-to-ceiling connection not only contrasts the light ceiling, but also makes lots more storage space to keep the area clutter-free.

(And there can never be too much storage space… right?)

Check out this other rare type of HDB maisonette – it’s got a double-height balcony that the homeowners have turned into a ‘second’ living area. We can already picture ourselves relaxing here, soaking in the morning light with a steaming mug in hand.

To visually elongate the already tall space, large format concrete slabs cover the entire side wall, from the floor to the double-height ceiling.

8. A well-lit HDB maisonette that recreates an ‘al fresco’ dining vibe

The owners of this maisonette had a novel idea: setting up a breakfast bar and a laundry yard in the balcony.

Besides enjoying quiet mornings with a cuppa and the seriously impressive view, this gives the homeowners plenty of space for a dedicated laundry area to sort and fold clothes, unlike in most service yards which feel too cramped.
