A Dated Condominium in KL Gets a New Lease of Life for Two Sisters
A cosy, chic haven for two sisters
Two close-knit sisters in their 50s decided to move in together and found the perfect sub-sale condo in Old Klang Road. While the unit came with some existing loose furniture and dated built-ins, it didn’t quite reflect their taste or lifestyle. Wanting a fresh, modern update, they turned to the team at Glassic Conzept to give the space a full transformation.
The sisters gave the firm full creative freedom, trusting them to handle everything from selecting furniture to curating the colour palette. The result? A beautifully transformed space that’s both stylish and comfortable! Read on as Ms. Fun, the project manager, shares what went into turning this dated sub-sale condo into a cosy modern retreat.
About the homeowners and their home
The owners, two sisters who enjoy reading, watching movies, and traveling together, saw this 1,000 sqft condominium as the perfect chance to create a home that reflects their shared lifestyle. With 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a balcony offering stunning views of the city skyline, the space held plenty of potential for a thoughtful, personalised transformation.

They discovered our firm through one of their nephews, a recent client who had a great experience working with us. He found us reliable and easy to work with, so he happily recommended us to them!
About their chosen design style for the home
The design brief was pretty straightforward. The sisters wanted the space to feel instantly calming and almost transcendent the moment they stepped through the door. For the kitchen, practicality, functionality, and sustainability were all top priorities. And since they're both self-proclaimed shopaholics, maximising storage throughout the home was an absolute must.
We proposed a modern minimalist design for the home. Since space was limited, we really had to get creative, making sure every corner was used wisely and nothing went to waste. To bring out the cosy, clean feel of the minimalist style, the entire house was painted in neutral tones like beige, cream, white, and black. These shades not only enhance the aesthetic but also give the space a timeless, calming vibe.

The open concept living area
The home features an open-plan layout that seamlessly blends the living room, dry kitchen, and dining area. In the living area, we installed a built-in console table and storage cabinet, tucked neatly behind the TV panel. The floating design creates an airy feel, making the space look larger than it is.

For the built-in carpentry, we mixed closed cabinets and open shelves, giving the sisters a place to display their décor while keeping things tidy and hiding away anything they want out of sight. We also carved out a small dining nook behind the living area, providing a cosy spot for the sisters to enjoy meals together.

The sisters mentioned they wanted a space to enjoy their breakfast in the dry kitchen, so we created a peninsula just for that. It provides the perfect spot for morning meals. We used a travertine-look sintered stone for the countertops and backsplash as they would be easier to maintain than the real thing. The peninsula frame and bar stools are accented with warm wood materials for a nice contrast. Plus, we added a sink next to the peninsula, so they can wash their hands without having to step into the wet kitchen.

For the kitchen cabinets, we chose laminated plywood in a grey tone to match the home’s overall neutral palette.
Next to the dry kitchen, we created a small nook with a built-in cabinet and a cosy bench, perfect for some quiet time, whether it's reading or praying. It’s a peaceful corner that adds a nice personal touch to the home.

The wet kitchen and laundry area
In the wet kitchen, we added pullout baskets and plenty of cabinets to boost storage. The countertops and backsplash are made of durable quartz, while the grey laminated plywood cabinets create a seamless visual link with the dry kitchen, tying everything together beautifully.

The bedrooms
A lot of thought went into designing the bedrooms. As mentioned earlier, they need plenty of storage space because they love shopping. Taking this into account and with three bedrooms to work with, we suggested converting one of the smaller rooms into a walk-in wardrobe. This way, the sisters could keep all their clothes and accessories organised in one place, without cluttering their bedrooms.
Similarly, the bedrooms are designed with minimalism and functionality in mind. Since space is limited, we suggested replacing the existing swing door with a laminated plywood sliding door to make the most of the available space.
We installed a built-in bedframe and bedside tables to maximise space, and added textured wall paint to give the room a tactile feel while making it more visually appealing. The result is a serene and calming space, like stepping into a beautiful retreat at the end of the day.
Challenges faced
The biggest challenge of this renovation was working with the limited space available. We had to get creative with the design to ensure there was still plenty of room to move around, even with all the cabinets throughout the house!

To sum up
Overall, we’re really happy with how everything turned out and grateful for the trust the sisters put in us. They gave us the freedom to get creative, and every idea our design team came up with was embraced and seamlessly blended into the final result. In one word, we’re incredibly satisfied with the outcome!
Working with the sisters was a wonderful experience. They were lovely to work with and the whole process was smooth and enjoyable, making it a truly rewarding collaboration. The sisters are especially happy with the colour theme we chose and how we incorporated the storage system into the furniture without making the space feel cluttered.
