These Interior Trends Will Be Everywhere In 2018

December 19, 2017

New year, new look?

Okay, it's crazy to do a complete overhaul of your home every time the seasons change, but trust us, these interior trends will blow up in 2018 and give you a serious itch for a makeover.

And unlike the mellow, natural looks which defined spaces in 2017 (don't worry Jungalow homes, we still love you), one thing's for sure - it's all about going big and bold in the upcoming year. Let's take a look:

1. Big, Bright Hues

With Pantone's Colour of the Year being a psychedelic shade of Ultra Violet, you know 2018 is in for some serious pops of colour. Even if a shade that reminds you of Barney isn't right up your alley, think out of the (monochrome) box with bursts of crisp hues like garden-fresh greens, dreamy ocean blues and enchanting sunburnt yellow.

Oh, and let's not forget - reds in all shades of crimson to vermilion are expected to stay in trend for awhile, as are rich colours like navy and dark moss greens.

2. Millennial Pink is Still Hot

Admit it, we all probably have a secret obsession with this lovely hue. So here's the good news - it's still looking on point (at least for 2018). However, if you're still on the fence with this highly adaptable, gender-neutral colour (yes, pink is), you might want to opt for a completely fresh (but similar) take with lilac or lavender.

3. Metal & Velvet Accents

Basically, anything that screams 'rich' without actually looking snobbish. Heavy textures and a little glitz and glam would be all the rage in 2018. Think a mix of various metallic (golds, brass, copper) knobs and handles, paired with deep-hued velvet furniture or dark wood pieces for a warm yet dramatic look.

4. Non-Basic Flooring Materials

As we've mentioned, it's all about affordable luxury for 2018, with deep plush materials like velvet and silk bringing a dash of personality. Likewise, your floors are getting an upgrade, as we're seeing more homes ditching 'basic' floor materials such as terracotta, marble and granite.

Instead, unique flooring styles take centre stage. In fact, Pinterest has already predicted some - Herringbone wood floors and walls; spotted Terrazzo floors or countertops. Others include distressed wood and cork - materials that all help add a little texture and drama to a space.

5. Wabi-Sabi

We've gone through Nordic Hygge and Lagom in 2017 - which were all about getting into the cosy lifestyle and living in moderation. But in 2018, a more Eastern approach takes hold.

Enter the Japanese Wabi-Sabi movement - a trend that (we bet) you'd 100% get behind. All about finding beauty in imperfection and accepting the state of things as they are, the Wabi-Sabi outlook is simply being real about your personal space. Trends or no, a home doesn't have to be prim and perfect for it to look good. So, if you feel good in the space you're in now, you don't have to be a stickler for trends! Enjoy it and get off this page (just kidding).
