3 Room Resale HDB into brand new look

Reviewed by Dennis Jun Hong Lin・Submitted 30 Jul 2019・ Project completed Jun 2019・Designer Edwin

When you buy a new house, you definitely would want to give your house a new life with a brand new look according to your style and comfort, and how it will best suit your needs. Therefore, you would likely go and do research through friends, internet, magazines and other resources that can be found around you. However, there will always be things that require more professional knowledge to combine with ideals to make the dream house come true. Therefore an Interior Designers (ID) is there to help their clients with their professional creative ideas, designs and also provide solutions that customise to the client’s personality and lifestyle, by capturing their design dreams and making them a reality. I am very pleased to meet Edwin from Earth Interior Design who brought a new life to my 3 Room Resale Flat. When we first met at his office, the building where he and his colleagues work, I was impressed as it was very well designed and organized. It seemed like a show room but yet it was actually a three storey floor office. During the discussion, he listened to my ideas and needs very carefully. I was very pleased with the questions he asked as they were issues I had not thought of. In addition, he also asked if I would be open to his ideas and changes that would eventually help create a more perfect house for me. I have met up a lot IDs but Edwin has impressed me the most by giving his creative ideas and awesome design. It was a very smooth renovation for the past 7 weeks. He kept me updated with the latest of the renovation and also suggest of items to buy for beautifying my house. At one point, I was having problems getting a bank cheque on time but due to the trust between us, he continued to let his contractors to complete the job and deliver it to me on time. Earth Interior Design have set a higher standard of services for others Interior Designers to follow. I would highly recommend Earth Interior Design as number one Interior Designer for their services and quality of work. My friends who came to my house have gone off with a good impression of its design and its workmanship. Thank You Edwin and Thank You Earth Interior Design.

Horrid experience with In Interior Design Pte Ltd

Reviewed by AnnoyedOwner456・Submitted 19 Oct 2018・ Project completed Dec 2018・Designer RL

1) Home renovation was delayed by almost 2 months. We had to constantly chase for updates, if not there would be none from the ID. 2) Poor communication from ID. ID could not translate our ideas to the contractors resulted in carpentry being done wrongly. Spoke to the boss of the ID firm and he forced us to accept the mistake even though it was not our fault. He said that if we wish to move in, just accept it and move on if not he can tear the entire carpentry down which would hold up the project which was already behind time at that point. 3) ID do not come and supervise the works. Pictures to us were sent by sub contractors to her. When we asked for more pictures, the common answer is "I am not at the site". This result in a lot of things not done correctly which further delayed the project. Mistakes were often blamed on homeowners being fussy and picky. My wife had to supervise the contractors most of the time as we do not trust the ID. That being said, ID will simply push the contractors to ask the homeowner when there is a question. If that is the case, why do we have to hire an ID in the first place? 4) After everything has finally been completed, defect rectification has not commenced because we refused to sign an agreement that was poorly worded, full of grammatical errors and not even printed on company letterhead. As we cannot comprehend with the agreement, we did not wish to sign on it and the ID firm used that as an excuse to not carry out rectification works even though it states on the master contract that defects are covered for a 12 months period. Overall, an extremely horrid experience with this firm as we end up supervising majority of the works ourselves. Would not recommend this firm due to their lack of expertise in the industry, professionalism and ethics. Once you have paid the money, the relationship changes and your queries will not be answered.

(1) simple carpentary renovation took more than 2 months to conclude and that was after much chasing from us - mind you we have an EC so there wasn’t any major works to be done to begin with (2) ID did not supervise any works at all. Everything was sent to her via photos from Contractors. This resulted in a lot of miscommunication and defects (3) Found out that the ID actually quit the company since before our project started. But no action was done on the company’s part to Ensure that their customers projects are done properly (4) after renovations there are a lot of defects but it has been almost 2 months and there is no sound or word from the company on any intentions to fix the defects (5) company even wanted us to sign some badly phrased document that is not legally vetted by any lawyer which basically wanted us to settle the case and keep our mouth shut because they are afraid we would sue them - mind you the document had a lot of typos (6) now the boss of the company has decided to stop replying us altogether after banging the table at us because he couldn’t force us to accept his unreasonable resolutions

In Interior Design my bad experience

Reviewed by Phuong・Submitted 12 Oct 2018・ Project completed Dec 2018・Designer Candy

They charged $1000 to lock the promotion package and promise to provide 3D Muji style drawing with quotation proposal around $30K. BUT they only provided us 2 times of 3D drawing totally not in Muji style and quotation proposal at $47K. We asked them to redraw 3D drawing on 9 July 2018 and until now 12 Oct 2018 we didn't receive anything. They promised to refund $500 and 3D Muji style drawing on 27 August, but nothing happens. Now, they (ID Candy Leong + her manager Raymond) ignored all our messages and phone calls. They keep promising but don't do anything and in the end they will just ignore you totally. This is what we have experienced with this ID company.

First time renovating our resale home. I received a follow up message from Charmaine; IN INTERIOR almost immediately on a weekend. Met her and kinda have a chemistry immediately. Didn’t bother much when I met other ID and came back to see her and Jay. She understood my needs and delivered her promises. There were some minor hiccups and I consider myself being quite fussy. She has all the patience and throughout the renovation period was fast in responses. Took care of other fixtures as well. Slightly over 2 months but it was worthwhile. The end result was superb. We are happy with our dream home and we strongly recommend them to all home owners. Thank you for being such a lovely IDs and putting up with me.

PLENTY OF ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

Reviewed by Maddy・Submitted 20 Oct 2018・ Project completed May 2018・Designer JAY

Qanvast handpicked 5 IDs for me that met my budget and criteria. One of the first to call was ID JAY from IN INTERIOR DESIGN. I went to the showroom, was welcomed by Jay with warmth and professionalism. After a long consultation, I was sold. The works was supposed to complete in 8 weeks, although it was rather long for someone who did not do any hacking and major reconstruction (BTO flat). Also, I requested to move in within one month in a liveable condition such as the toilet amenities to be ready and a bedroom to sleep, at the very least. True enough, Jay and his senior partner, Simon could make the toilets and master bedroom ready as requested. Unfortunately, many hiccups came along the process which cause quite a bit of unhappiness. They forgot to consider my short stature which made the dish rack at the cabinet and island counter too high for me. A lot of carpentry follow-ups needed to be done on the carpentry which caused delay. Timeliness was a big issue whereby most of the time for almost 2 weeks, nothing was done at all. The IDs hardly ever dropped by at worksite to monitor or make checks on the details of the completed works. Very often, I had to monitor the details or mistakes and kept calling Jay or Simon to rectify the mistakes. Did I mention that the final completion was about 3 months plus? Although Jay and Simon were quick to reply and iron the issues out, there was a lot of communication breakdown between them and the workers and me. They need a lot of improvement especially on the issues where they make owners like me feel like I did not have an ID at all! They also should learn further on SMARTHOME collaboration. I incorporated SMARTHOME in my design and few wiring and design mistakes had to be re-done few times due to their lack of synchronisation and communication with my SMARTHOME designers. Overall, I must admit Jay, Simon and the workers were still cool and polite even many times they were slammed down with my intense displeasure and frustration. Having said that, am I happy with the overall design, which mostly was my own idea? Yes. Will I recommend the company to others? No, think not.

Out of the 5 recommended IDs Qanvast gave to us, we met 3, and In Interior was one of them. The reason why we engaged them was because they had a wider selection of materials and the staff that attended to us were friendly and very receptive to whatever ideas we had. However, when it came to embarking on the renovation works, a lot of issues arised, and there was a significant change in our final design from the 3D design given. Many of the materials we selected were unavailable, and we had to swap for an alternative which took up some time. Likewise, some of the ideas proposed turned out to be unfeasible in our house, and our ID Cui Ing and the project manager Candy had to propose another idea instead. It was slightly disappointing, but thankfully the both of them did go out of the way to make sure the end-product and changes made was for the better. I'm glad that there weren't any major hiccups, and I love the final look. Cui Ing and Candy even helped us collect our appliances and home items when we were busy - which we appreciated. But, if there's one thing that I feel they can improve on, is the timeliness of the works. The whole renovation was delayed for almost a month and a half, though we wanted it to be completed earlier so that it wouldn't clash with our wedding and honeymoon. However, there was no follow-up nor explanation as to why the works were delayed - for some weeks, nothing was done at all. Maybe they could have been more proactive on that point.

I was looking through the different ID profiles on Qanvast, and In Interior's caught my eye, as I felt that their designs were in line to my aesthetic. That's also the reason why I decided to engage them after meeting 2 others that Qanvast recommended as well. I very pleased with my ID Su Qing's work, and she was very hardworking and involved in the whole renovation process. As we were doing a partial renovation, and we were still staying in the flat while the works was underway, undergoing works was a bit more difficult, but Su Qing managed to make it a smooth, easy experience. While my mom is usually there to supervise, Su Qing still makes it a point to come down every other day, when her schedule permits, and she was very responsive when there were hiccups. Though the contractors a little hard to handle at times, Su Qing tries to keep them in line, and make sure things are done according to plan.

We engaged Cindy from In Interior even though they were the most expensive, as she was enthusiastic and sounded more experienced, openly sharing ideas and giving more opinions. In terms of following up, we did have to ask and push for updates regarding the timeline. It was more strenuous than what we thought. According to the timeline, this project ended about one and a half months late. That's also because at the end of September, we were a bit upset and started to push them. To be fair, the timeline given was quite long as we told them we rather they don't rush, and do things properly. However, as an experienced project managers, they should know how to plan their time accordingly. Workmanship for the most part is ok, paint splash and things like that are acceptable. That said, when the floor protection was deteriorating, we told them and they assured us that nothing would be affected. In the end, our tiles got scuffed and chipped, to which they said they would touch it up. Also, they were installed our lights, fans and aircon before the woodwork, and the dust was everywhere. I think this should have been properly managed, since these items should be installed at the end. Cindy was accommodating, and I didn't feel uncomfortable in replies, but getting things done in a timely manner took a while.

We picked In Interior as they were the ones who were able to do up a design that I wanted. As I was only doing up my bedroom, the whole renovation process was done rather timely and everything was relatively smooth. There were some issues but all was smoothed out by our ID Jeffery. However, as I didn't really set a tight timeline for them, things took longer than usual, but otherwise, all was great.

We had to stick to a very tight timeline, as we were rushing to move in. We felt that In Interior, one of the recommended interior designers from Qanvast were very friendly, and were able to meet this requirement - that's why we decided to engage them. Overall, they delivered what they'd promised, and although there were a couple of hiccups here and there, they were all quickly rectified by our interior designer Elwin. I felt that the whole experience was rather fuss-free, though if there was one thing that could be improved on was the quality of workmanship and the attention to detail on the works done.

After meeting up with a few IDs Qanvast recommended, we decide to engage In Interior for their price and what they have got to offer. In times of hiccups, Candy is able to rectify it fast. Candy is willing to listen to our ideas and opinions on what we want, although there are some parts that she understood it differently which turns out a little different than what we expected. However, she did rectify it fast after notifying her of the difference.
