Spa In Your Own Home: Ideas for Walk-In Showers That Pamper

May 27, 2021

When it comes to the bathroom, many homeowners fantasise about owning a tranquil walk-in shower, typically found in many high-end hotels and spas that offer a haven of personal rest, relaxation and retreat.

You can create a similar environment in your bathroom too! In this article, we’ll show you how to make a stylish but practical walk-in shower that will add a touch of luxury to your daily routine.

1. Make a statement with tiles

The use of unique and eye-catching tiles is one of the easiest ways to add a touch of luxury to your walk-in shower. A tiled walk-in shower can add interest to a space, and there are several options to consider: you can go for a single tile colour to create a seamless look, or you can use a mix of tiles to separate different functions in your bathroom.

2. Include built-in storage

Furniture and vanity units can sometimes clutter a room unintentionally, so always look for storage alternatives in small bathrooms with walk-in showers. When renovating, consider installing a recessed wall shelf in your walk-in shower for storage as it doesn’t take up too much space compared to bulky furniture pieces. Thinking ahead in the planning phase means you can keep the floor clear and avoid storage woes later on.

3. Install floor-to-ceiling glass door with a small gap

Installing a glass door in the shower space is a great way to keep water contained while also allowing natural light into the space. When taking a hot shower, though, a floor-to-ceiling door traps a lot of steam, resulting in a high degree of humidity. Instead, install a floor-to-ceiling glass door with a small gap to allow for ventilation. The steam will be able to escape, and the humidity in your bathroom will be reduced.

4. Install multiple shower heads for ultimate relaxation

If you are looking to create a spa-like atmosphere in your bathroom, consider outfitting your walk-in shower with multiple showerheads. A rainfall showerhead, for example, imitates rain by pouring water from the ceiling for a soothing effect, making a daily shower feel like a spa day.

A ceiling-mounted showerhead and many other shower heads along the wall in this bathroom provide the homeowner with a fully customisable showering experience whilst also making the bathroom feel extra luxurious.

5. Install a bench

Some people like to soak in a tub where they can sit and relax when bathing. You can, however, do both without using a tub! A built-in marble seat that floats above the floor in this bathroom, for example, can be used as a shower bench, a spot to prop your leg for shaving, or a drop zone for shampoo bottles and body wash.

6. Add some plants for a fresh look

Adding some plants will help to make your walk-in shower feel more refreshing. Take inspiration from this bathroom, where a leafy plant in a vase that sits next to the sink creates a soothing and cheerful atmosphere when you enter the bathroom every morning.

7. Don’t forget lighting

To keep your walk-in shower looking sophisticated and serene, you'll need the right lighting. Replace traditional overhead lighting bulbs with LEDs for a spa-like ambience. Look for a full-spectrum daylight bulb with a lower wattage. It will be vivid, but not blinding.

You can also place pretty sconces or pendant lights on either side of your mirror at eye level for optimum lighting in your bathroom. This height allows you to see yourself in the best light possible when primping, as well as brightening up your shower space.
