Moving to M Vertica, Cheras? These Reno Ideas Might Come in Handy!

February 14, 2023

M-Vertica homeowners, it’s time to kick-start your home renovation journey!

Cheras, which borders Ampang to the north and Kajang to the south, is one of Kuala Lumpur's oldest residential areas, with parts of it located in Selangor. Because of its proximity to both states, this area is popular among city dwellers. The M Vertica is one of Cheras's most recent projects, and it is expected to be completed this year. It is a 4.5-acre development with 3,600 condominium units spread across five residential towers.

Whether you are doing your everyday groceries, looking for eateries, or buying your home’s furniture, there are several retail and entertainment options nearby for residents to access. This includes Sunway Velocity Mall, TREC, VIVA Shopping Mall, 1 Shamelin Mall, IKEA Cheras, MyTOWN Shopping Centre, AEON Maluri, and Suria KLCC.

M Vertica residents can also travel around, into, and out of the city easily. There is plenty of public transportation nearby, including several taxi stands, bus hubs, and even MRT and LRT stations within walking distance.

Traveling by car is much more convenient because there are major roadways and a highway that pass around the condominium. This includes a dedicated ramp from/to Jalan Cheras as well as major roads such as the Maju Expressway (MEX), the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), BESRAYA, SMART, the Salak South Highway, and the Federal Highway.

Two types of floor plans

M Vertica offers condominiums with two types of layouts: 850 sqft 3-bedroom units and 1,000 sqft 4-bedroom units.

What differentiates these condos is their number of rooms. Type A features 3 bedrooms, whereas Type B is slightly larger, with an extra bedroom that contributed to the additional 150 sqft. Whichever you’re moving into, here are some ideas to consider when renovating your M Vertica condominium!

1. Improve your home's privacy by installing a partition by the entrance

Because there is no entryway, homeowners who value privacy or enjoy leaving doors open to ventilate the house may find the M Vertica layout challenging. When your neighbour walks by your house, they can see right into your living room.

As a solution, use a blind to help delineate the space and provide some privacy from outsiders peering directly into the house whenever you need to leave the door open as Nothelc Atelier did for this condominium. It takes up little space and can be easily removed in the future.

Aside from blinds, you can also consider a floor-to-ceiling frosted glass divider or a petite shelving unit, as AW Design Lab did here.

2. Install custom carpentry to maximise your small kitchen space

Working with a small kitchen will be another challenge for M Vertica homeowners, unless you don't cook frequently. Make clever use of your limited space by installing custom cabinetry sized and shaped exactly to fit your kitchen appliances, cookware and serving pieces.

Take an example from this 1000 sqft condominium (with a similar-sized kitchen) that comes with open and hanging shelves to display gorgeous liquor bottles and wine glasses and closed cabinets to store not-so-well-coordinated dishware or cookware.

The combination of closed and open shelves helps to make the small kitchen feel less cluttered, while a light colour palette makes the space feel more airy and bright. Anwill Design also chose an L-shaped layout that opens up to the adjacent dining room to make the kitchen feel less claustrophobic.

3. Combine your kitchen and dining area

Another great way to save space in your M Vertica home's communal area is by having your dining table serve as an extension of your kitchen counter. Doing so not only gives you extra space for food prep, but also eliminates the need for a dining table in the middle of your living room.

Take a cue from this condominium by Space Up Design, which features a stylish open-concept kitchen for a bright and airy feel despite the small floor area. Here, the dining table extends out from the peninsula, but is of a lower height to establish itself as a space with its own distinctive purpose. Another benefit of doing so? You get to interact with your guests/family members when preparing meals. Aesthetic and practical - consider us sold!

4. Install a multi-purpose bench, with a view!

When renovating your living room, don’t pass up the opportunity to incorporate some custom built-ins. And, because your M Vertica living room does not include a balcony, you can add a bench seat by the window.

This lovely living room by Nothelc Atelier is an excellent example. For a seamless look, this custom-made window bench extends from the TV console and is the perfect spot to curl up with a good book, or provide extra seating when there are guests over. Plus, it comes with storage units underneath to help keep clutter out of sight!

5. Create the illusion of height

Condominiums typically have a fixed ceiling height, and if you plan to add a plaster ceiling, the ceiling height will change noticeably.

However, there are numerous ways to fool your eyes into thinking your ceiling is much higher than it is. Take design inspiration from this bedroom, where NS Home Planner installed a wood-like feature wall with vertical lines that blur the lines between ceiling and wall. When combined with a low height bed, it gives the illusion of height and, therefore, space to an otherwise small-looking space.

6. Maximise bedroom storage with a floating shelf and cubby holders

If the junior bedrooms are too small to accommodate a bed, wardrobe, vanity, and drawer all at once, consider installing a bed with low baseboard drawers for extra storage space.

Take a cue from this bedroom, where Livspace installed a bed with drawers underneath, allowing the owner to keep bed sheets or extra knick knacks lying around the room and making the room appear less cluttered. And instead of a nightstand, the bed frame includes a floating shelf and cubby holders, so that the under-bed drawers can extend all the way to the wall without anything getting in the way of them being pulled out.

7. Consider pull-out furniture for flexibility of space

When it comes to small homes, flexibility of space is often crucial in maximising whatever square footage you have. Consider this bedroom idea, where SQFT Space Design Management installed a small pull-out table and chair that can be pulled out should work space be needed, and neatly tucked inside the wardrobe when not in use.

8. Make the most of your bathroom by installing vertical storage and wall-mounted fixtures

Bathrooms aren't always the most spacious spaces to work with when renovating, and the ones in M Vertica condos are no exception. One of the best ways to fully utilise the space is by making the most of vertical space.

Take a cue from this 990 sqft condominium (with a similar bathroom layout) where Paperworks Studio added wall mounted custom cabinetry on top of the bathroom sink with mirrors, open shelves, and closed cabinets. In addition, the designer also installed wall mounted fittings - for hanging a hair dryer, or hand towels - and floating cabinetry around the sink. Keeping the floor clear will not only make your bathroom appear larger, but it will also make cleaning easier!
