Sophia Office

Designed by Aamer Architects

CommercialContemporary

Project Details

Built in the late 1900's, the office is in the middle of a row of nine 2-storey terrace houses (image 029) in close proximity to the famous shopping area of Orchard Road in Singapore. The land area is about 1,400ft2 with the front and back facing residential multi-storey apartment blocks (022). We were charmed by the brick arches, central court yard and greenery at the rear. The first floor was used as meeting rooms (026) with a recreational area at the back (021, 022). We removed the existing straight flight staircase in place of a spiral in the middle courtyard (013, 015) and added a skylight (017) and green wall to infuse a garden into the office (013) with lots of natural light. Staff work areas were located at the second storey and a mezzanine (002) was also added to allow a few more work stations. Unfortunately, we had to vacate our nice office at Sophia and are now settled on the 6th Floor of the Tee Yih Jia Food Building at No 5 Burn Road where we have created a pleasant 'not of the ordinary' working environment for the designers, where creative minds ought to come up with the most interesting and brilliant innovative ideas. An atmosphere encouraging people to think for and with their Clients emphasizing that Architecture can change the lives of its inhabitants – bringing families closer together, giving them 'joie de vivre'. How cool is that?
