3 Things To Note Before You Start Your Renovation

Looking to give your home a makeover? Whether you are looking for a home professional to do up a major revamp, or a simple makeover to spruce up your home for the new year, here are three essential tips to take note of before you start drafting your makeover plans.

###1. CHOICE OF FURNISHINGS

• Got a decor theme in mind? Keep your furnishings simple along that theme. Also, avoid mixing too many colors and materials together

• Pick furniture that are proportionate to the space allocated. Don’t try to fit a sofa, lounge chair, ottoman and a coffee table in one space.

• Always choose the colours of the walls before choosing the furniture

###2. FOCAL POINT OF INTEREST

• Create a focal point of interest, but ensure that it doesn't overwhelm the space

• Pick either a singular focal display over numerous small displays that make the place messy or unproportionate to the space. Everything in design is about ratio and proportion

• Remove things that don’t matter. Remember, less is more

• While most people advocate to having only one focal point of interest, it is fine to have more than one if executed well, with intent. Otherwise, stick to one to avoid cluttering the place

###3. COLOUR PALETTE

• Generally, colours will brighten up the mood, whereas earthy tones are more muted. Whatever your choice is, keep colours to a minimal

• Before deciding on the colour, think about the mood you are looking to achieve

• A whole room in a single colour may be boring. Every space needs a focal point. Play up the accent wall using accent colours for that wall
