3D Renders vs Reality: Homes IRL that Nail the Original Design

Like looking into a mirror.

Unsurprisingly, many homeowners look forward to seeing the 3D renders of their home – after all, it’s the first look into the home they’ve always wanted. But how close do these visuals match the reality after the renovation is completed?

3d renders vs reality

We look at three projects and compare the 3D renders with the actual images to find out:

If yin and yang was a look, it would be something like the one shown here. Created for a 4-room BTO flat in Tampines, the design shown in these 3D renders is home to two distinct looks: an airy Muji-inspired aesthetic with light wood surfaces and clean lines on one side, and a contemporary look with dark wood cabinetry on the other.

While they seem worlds apart visually, they balance each other beautifully. The light-toned areas keep the home bright and spacious, while the darker finishes introduce depth and contrast. Together, they create a harmonious balance that feels intentional rather than divided.

While the 3D renders capture most of the details, the completed home boasts a warmer and more inviting feel. That can partially be attributed to the change in wood choice, which went from a darker, more muted shade to something much lighter and brighter.

Additionally, thanks to the amount of natural light and actual material textures, the visual contrasts are softened while keeping the same level of depth.

It’s a result that not only stays faithful to the renders, but is also a testament to Authors Interior’s skill in translating digital visuals into a home that feels just as good as it looks.

2. Plantation Grove by Juz Interior

3D render

3d home interior

Featuring a modern contemporary look with eclectic touches, the 3D renders created for this 5-room BTO flat in Tengah are both sophisticated and full of character.

The majority of the space is decked out in a cool, bright colour palette; paired with clean lines, it creates an airy feeling that emphasises the spaciousness of the home.

In contrast, the kitchen introduces visual contrasts with deep green cabinets and dark wood, adding warmth without disrupting the overall look.

Additionally, Juz Interior also incorporated the homeowners’ lifestyle into the design. From a sneaker display wall to a gaming-ready workstation, every feature was thoughtfully integrated to make the design personalised and functional.

As you can clearly tell, the final outcome matched the 3D renders almost to a T, right down to the colour palette and finishes. This doesn’t just highlight the accuracy of the visualisation, but also Juz Interior’s precision and ability to deliver on what was promised.

3. Stirling Residences by Comuna Interior

3D render

3d house design

Created for a 2-bedroom condo in Queenstown, these 3D renders highlight a space with a design that’s simple, yet far from basic.

With its light wood base, neutral palette, and uncluttered layout, it showcases a timeless appeal. But it’s really the subtle details that elevate the look – from the circular cut-out in the wall to the rounded corners of the carpentry, each of them add visual interest and show how a pared-back design can still feel refined.

There are a few tweaks to the 3D renders – like the additional panelling details on the TV feature wall, as well as light and power point placements. However, that’s perfectly normal in any home renovation, as certain things can only be determined on-site.

However, the end result is still faithful to the original design. If anything, this highlights Comuna Interior’s adaptability while still giving the home their clients dream of!
