Couple’s 5-Room BTO is a Cosy, Light-Filled Home With a Stunning View

Cosy, warm, and inviting, this home is like a warm cup of tea on a rainy morning.

Whether it’s a feature wall or a statement furniture piece, every home needs a focal point to anchor the overall design. But they don’t always have to be found within the home – because if you’re blessed with a great view like Clara and Ben (@chozzihome), it’s only – ahem – natural to draw attention to it.

“We’ve always loved nature, and wanted a lower floor unit that puts us at eye level with the greenery outside,” says Clara about their 5-room BTO flat in Yishun. “So, getting this place was a dream as it has a whole stretch of windows that directly overlooks the nearby forest.”

This, combined with the warm, neutral tones that they chose for the overall design, creates a stunning home that boasts ample visual contrast while remaining cohesive throughout.

Entryway that frames the view

Upon entering the home, guests will find themselves within an entryway clad in deep walnut laminates from top to bottom, creating a dramatic transition to the bright and airy living room.

While standing in this area, the dark walnut tones help to frame the windows, complementing the greenery outside while creating contrast that makes the view pop.

Interconnected living room, kitchen, and cosy corner

Wanting a space that was bright and airy, Clara and Ben minimised the amount of built-ins to maximise the floor space. Save for the TV console and kitchen cabinets – which was designed to be clean and simple while still providing ample storage space – the living room is otherwise furnished with pieces from Cellini and Taobao.

As they love hosting their family and friends, Clara and Ben chose to hack the walls of their kitchen and junior bedroom to merge the space with the living room, creating an interconnected open-concept space that allows their guests to freely move around and mingle with one another.

Their kitchen, which Clara asserts is her favourite spot in the house, is home to an island where guests can gather around, as well as a coffee corner which Ben uses to make his coffee every day, without fail.

To introduce additional texture to the space – and to complement the other nature-inspired elements like wood and rattan – they chose to build their countertops with a beige natural stone that adds visual depth to the space.

Their cosy corner – which was set up within the original junior bedroom – features a large daybed that provides extra (and comfortable) seating for their guests. But aside from that, it also doubles up as an actual bed for anyone who may need to spend the night.

Bright and airy master bedroom

Clara and Ben’s requirements for the master bedroom was simple: to have a light colour scheme that maximises the brightness of the space.

Doing this also makes the vibrant greenery stand out even more, introducing a splash of colour to the space.

While looking at tile selections in Hafary, Clara and Ben found themselves liking these beige terrazzo tiles with flecks of red and yellow interspersed throughout.

So, they decided to incorporate it into their master bathroom. The result? A soothing space with a quirkier vibe that still complements the neutral colour theme found throughout the house.
