a) Type 1
For this 2-room Flexi Type 1 flat, the designers at Rezt and Relax went with a cosy, cafe-inspired home that homeowners will love coming back to after a long day out.
This render is proof that you can still host groups within a small space. In the living room, you’ll find a window settee (one that overlooks the Kallang River!) alongside the sofa, which creates ample seating space.
Additionally, to maximise space, the designers suggest forgoing a bulky dining table setup and instead opted for a built-in bar table that extends from the TV feature wall and makes use of the full length of the wall.
The bedroom maintains the bright and airy look from the communal area, which not only ensures continuity but also lends the space a serene quality that makes it ideal for sleep.
b) Type 2
Once again designed by the designers from Rezt & Relax Interior, this 2-room Flexi BTO flat (Type 2) has a clean, cosy look that is the perfect balance of comfort and practicality.
Designed for a retired couple who frequently have their grandchildren over, the rendered home features the classic white-and-wood design combination – one that is a tried-and-tested way to imbue the space with warmth and cosiness.
Tip: to keep the space open and easy to navigate, opt for compact, minimal furniture that leaves plenty of walking room (and for kids to run around).
The bedroom, in contrast, has a lighter, more pared-back palette that creates a restful atmosphere, with grab bars along the sides offering the (hypothetical) couple additional support and safety without looking overly clinical.
But the true highlight is the flexible nook that is characteristic of Type 2 2-room Flexi BTO flats. In this case, it was turned into a compact guest room with a bed built into the carpentry – for grandchildren to stay over, or use the space as storage when not in use.
Design ideas for a 3-room BTO flat in Bishan Ridges:
Imagined for a DINK couple who adore bold, personality-filled interiors, this 3-room Bishan Ridges flat – designed by Design Neu – has a retro-eclectic style that feels anything but cookie-cutter.
From curved forms and rich wood tones to the various pops of colour, the rendered home feels both nostalgic and fresh. And you’d think that all these different elements together can feel overwhelming, but they’re anchored by the white walls and flooring that allow the space to breathe.
Despite having 20+ sqm more space than their 2-room counterparts, 3-room BTO flats can still feel small – especially those with a household shelter in the middle of the home (like the ones in Bishan Ridges).
To counter that, the junior bedroom – which was converted into a study/guest room – was kept partially open. Sliding doors fitted with glass cut-outs, as well as a partial partition wall with circular cut-outs, offer privacy while ensuring that the entire home remains airy and visually connected.

Since there isn’t a household shelter to design around, homeowners with this particular home layout are free to create an open-concept kitchen. Here, the designers put in a kitchen peninsula that doubles up as a sculptural centrepiece anchoring the communal space.
And if you don’t need to set aside a bedroom for kids, consider merging one of the junior bedrooms into the master suite, to create a massive walk-in wardrobe alongside the sleeping area.

Designed by U-Home Interior Design, the home is given an open-concept space that allows the family to talk to one another seamlessly, without any barriers. One striking feature is the dry pantry, which extends the kitchen’s functionality while also giving the communal area a semi-hospitality-like feel.
The bedrooms boast the same quirky flair as the living room and kitchen. In particular, we’d like to point out the kids’ bedroom that features a bed-and-slide setup that maximises the small space while still creating distinct areas for sleep, play, and study.
