Everything You Should Buy at Amazon’s Massive 36-Hour Sale

GSS may be in full swing, but there’s another massive blowout that we’re absolutely looking forward to - Amazon Prime Day! Featuring huge markdowns, special launches and limited time deals on everything but the sink (actually, you might find some markdowns for the sink), the American e-tailer has extended this once 24-hour deals bonanza to 36 hours.

So, mark your calendars; starting from July 16, thousands of products will be up for grabs at slashed prices. Only catch? It’s exclusive for Amazon Prime members. You’ll need to sign up for an Amazon Prime membership, but you can simply join their 30-day free trial period to gain access to all deals and perks without forking out any cash!

Similar to other major shopping events like Black Friday or 11.11, expect popular products to be sold out in a blink. So, strategise and shop smart; here, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Prime Day, plus the best home product deals to be eyeing on to save your time and help you focus on what’s important – shopping!

Wait, is Amazon Prime Day only available for the US site?

No, its wholly available in Singapore too! With the Amazon Prime app being launched in Singapore just last year, things get a little tricky when it comes to Amazon Prime Day. Amazon has extended the event to local consumers via the app, but do note that the product offerings, deals and even membership prices differ from the US site. Basically, think of them as two separate shopping platforms, holding the same event at the same time!

Singapore’s Amazon Prime Membership:
- Only available via it’s Amazon Prime app. No website.
- Has a range of locally stocked items, food and groceries, plus select items available for international shipping from US site.
- Prices converted to SGD, even for items from the US.
- Free 2-hour delivery for local orders above S$40; free standard delivery for international orders above S$60
- Membership rates start from S$2.99/month, with a 30-day free trial.

  • Amazon Prime Day starts from 16 July, 12pm local time.

US’ Amazon Prime Membership:
- Available via Amazon.com website and Amazon US app.
- Features a wider range of international, on-demand products, including those from Amazon Launchpad. Excludes foodstuffs.
- Prices in USD, subject to shipping/import fees.
- While US’ Amazon Prime does provide unlimited free shipping, it’s strictly for addresses within the US.
- Delivery to Singapore will incur charges. Alternatively, consider using a third-party forwarder like Comgateway, vPost and ezbuy to compare and see if costs can be reduced.
- Membership rates from US$12.99/month, with a 30-day free trial.

  • Amazon Prime Day starts on 16 July, 3pm EST (17th July, 3am local time)

Our take? The US site is stocked with a bigger (and cooler) variety of stuff, and has more deals going on for appliances and home gadgets. Meanwhile, the local app has a good amount of discounts for household goods and well-known labels like Tefal and Philips - so, your call!

What can I expect during Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon is releasing teaser ‘Countdown’ deals for select items each day leading up to the event from now, so you can check them out to get first dibs on some Prime Day savings.

On the day itself, it’s going to be huge (and messy) at times, but it’s going to be worth it. Expect all sorts of deals to be launched every couple of hours throughout, direct price cuts, exclusive launches and discounts on Amazon-branded gadgets* (like Echo Show, Kindle, etc.), Lightning deals (major cuts for a short time period), daily deals, coupon deals and more.

*Only for US site.
