Jaw-dropping, to say the least.
There’s no question that every home has a story to tell – and while we can’t possibly listen to all of them, we do get to share some of them on video.
To name a few, we’ve got a resort-themed cluster house (home to four cats), a ‘weird’ 3-room flat, and a moody cave-like 4-room BTO with the prettiest glass block island ever.
If you missed those, settle in with your popcorn; here’s a round-up of the stunning homes we toured this year:
This resort-style cluster house along Holland Road
This two-storey cluster house along Holland Road takes inspiration from the owners’ travels to Bali and Europe for a lovely tropical resort look. But there’s a twist: extensive smart home features that the tech-savvy husband personally worked on.
You’ll be wowed at every turn, from the stone wall fountain in the outdoor foyer all the way to the dome-shaped master ensuite bathroom inspired by an Australian coastal home the owners saw online.
This ‘corridor-less’ 5-room BTO in Punggol with cool iridescent accents
Drawing on cafes and hotels they’d both visited and seen online, the owners of this 5-room BTO in Punggol devised a design that’s both cosy and trendy. Think RYSE Autograph in Seoul, with a touch of iridescence that the couple had spotted in the studio where they purchased their engagement ring.
To achieve the look, the home got a complete layout overhaul; notably, the owners subsumed the corridor under the master bedroom to get a huge master suite with a walk-in wardrobe, rendering the home ‘corridor-less’.
This cave-like ‘hotel suite’ that’s actually a 4-room BTO
With an eye-catching custom glass block island and a faux stone bed head that’s both classy and rugged, it’s no surprise that this 4-room BTO flat in Punggol made quite the buzz on Instagram.
Not only does the home nail the dark, luxe look that the owners had wanted, but it’s also got a practical design – like the semi-partitioned design of the master bedroom and walk-in wardrobe for the owners to get ready at different times without disturbing each other.
This ID’s family home that looks like a MUJI hotel
This 4-bedroom Woodlands condo is an absolute stunner, and it comes with a 3.5 metre ceiling that its owner – an ID with a particular interest in Japanese interiors – took full advantage of.
Following Japanese principles of design, he created clean silhouettes (including the ‘floating’ steps leading to the loft) while tastefully maximising vertical space.
A firm believer of quality time with family, he also designed the dining area that doubles as the family room and library where he and his wife spend time with their kids.
This ID couple’s resale flat in Buangkok that’s a mix of Japandi and European influences
As IDs long in the industry, the owners of this 5-room resale flat in Buangkok are no strangers to various interior styles. When it came to designing their home, they took notes from their travels to Europe and came up with a unique design concept that incorporates local trends.
There’s a lot to appreciate here: the soothing, warm tones, a sophisticated custom island in the communal space that’s perfect for hosting and other details like the one-of-a-kind brick wall.
This expat’s chic, minimalist walk-up apartment in Tiong Bahru
Old and new converge in this walk-up apartment in Tiong Bahru, befitting a property in the conservation area full of old-school charm. Wanting a minimalist look, the owner went with microcement for the floor and walls, matte black fittings throughout and kept the furnishings simple.
As for the layout, he chose to merge two bedrooms to form a large living area that leads to the kitchen/dining, while the original kitchen is now the bedroom.
Another interesting detail: the red sofa mirrors the red roofs you see from the balcony.
This 3-room resale flat in Little India with an odd-shaped layout
In a classic example of turning a design challenge into an opportunity, this 3-room flat in Little India with a “weird” arrowhead-like edge got a creative redesign to better suit the owner’s preferences for hosting.
After a layout overhaul, the original junior bedroom is now the dining area that is accessible from the kitchen, living room and the master bedroom. With the moody theme, warm lighting and a peninsula that doubles as a breakfast/coffee counter, the home is a perfectly cosy hangout spot for the owner and his friends.
This couple’s SBF in Tiong Bahru that’s inspired by beach homes
Don’t be fooled: this is not a cosy overseas retreat, but a 5-room flat in Tiong Bahru. Influenced by their travels, the owners incorporated a mix of interior styles and got their designer’s help to come up with a layout conducive for hosting.
The balcony, which was merged with the living room, now has an extended platform that works as a “chill area” for when the owners have guests over. The study, meanwhile, was converted to a hidden entertainment room with minimal built-ins for future-proofing.
Another noteworthy feature: the massive concrete island in the dry kitchen that introduces textural variety in the wood-filled space.
This minimalist wabi-sabi resale flat that cost $100K to renovate
While many Singaporeans aspire to a hotel look for their homes, the owner of this 5-room resale flat in Punggol wanted anything but. As an executive who flies overseas often and needs to stay in countless hotels, she wanted a clean and comfy space to return to.
Since she doesn’t cook often, she opted to open up the kitchen to make the already-big living/dining area even more spacious while the master bedroom was merged with the adjacent junior bedroom for a huge master suite with an organic bedhead feature.
Combined with the home’s soothing minimalist wabi-sabi look, it’s safe to say the home is exactly what the owner wanted.
This rare HDB terrace home in Whampoa that provides a kampung-like escape from the city
There are only about 200 landed HDB units, which makes this couple’s HDB terrace in Jalan Bahagia an extremely rare one. Of the view that the ‘old’ elements left by previous owners lend character and a laid-back vibe to the home, they deliberately retained many of the features.
The exterior, reminiscent of colonial design, has a strong visual contrast with the interior which sports bright orange and yellow shades inspired by Spanish interior design.
The owners also made layout changes, like enlarging the impossibly small bathroom on the second floor to fit a bathtub backed by a quaint bay window, along with a separate shower area.
This DINK couple’s colourful and quirky walk-up apartment in Farrer Park
Undoubtedly one of the most unique homes we’ve ever toured, this walk-up apartment in Farrer Park is fun and colourful.
It’s an eclectic mix of everything the owners love, and a masterclass in doing research and knowing what you want for your home – that which gives your ID a clearer idea on how to bring your vision to life and advise you based on your lifestyle needs.
Notable features include the double-height window, the entertainment-cum-study loft and the staircase with a unique mesh design that has aged into a display spot. Needless to say, the home was a big hit, with over a million views on Instagram.
This executive apartment in Pasir Ris that’s designed for family bonding
Family bonding is important, but so is personal space – especially when you have teenage kids – and this executive apartment in Pasir Ris is the ideal family home that ensures both.
The owners and their designers spent a great deal of time on the space planning and redesign to ensure that all the communal spaces are seamlessly connected to spark conversations wherever they’re at – and as you can see, the end result is exactly what the owners envisioned.
