Reno Spotlight: Inside an Alluringly Timeless Condo of Modern Heritage

A look into the most-saved renovation project of the week.

Transitional interior design refers to a blend of traditional and modern design elements. But won’t they clash? Not necessarily! One way to blend them seamlessly is by using classic features that fit into any time period, like shaker-style cabinets and lighting fixtures with gold accents.

Inside this week’s most-saved home

We all love an aesthetic TV feature wall — plus points if it serves a practical purpose too. In this condo, the TV feature wall takes the form of floor-to-ceiling cabinetry for added storage, with several shelves left open to display photos, flowers and other memorabilia.

Sporting a light grey hue, the cabinet doors come with a classic shaker-style design — a panelling motif you’ll find recurring on the foldable framed glass doors leading to the balcony next to it. The result: continuity in design language without being too repetitive.

Notice how the flooring changes by way of demarcating the open kitchen without the need for a partition

Over at the dining room, it’s Victorian vibes all around. For one, there’s a wainscoted feature wall in cream (an oh-so-subtle colour difference from the white walls elsewhere).

For another, there’s a modern stone-look chandelier with gold accents, plus a round table that can comfortably seat six. No need to spend hundreds on high tea at a hotel; you can have the same boujee experience with your friends at home every weekend!

If a structural wall gets in the way of your plans for an island, work around it — literally!

Not enough space on the dining table? There’s an island conveniently located to the left for extra dishes and drinks. Plus, it comes with a dishwasher and integrated sink, making it a multi-purpose piece of furnishing that’s worth every square inch it occupies.

At the kitchen and yard, you’ll once again find shaker-style floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and classic lighting fixtures with gold accents, bringing in traditional interior design elements to an otherwise contemporary space.

While the bathrooms do have a more contemporary look, the use of shaker-style drawers and gold accents continue. But in the bathroom on the right, you’ll notice retro floor tiles that set it apart without looking dated.

Lastly, the Scandinavian-style bedroom is decked in muted tones to create a restful atmosphere to wind down. It’s relatively simple and minimalist in design, but as with the rest of the home, it’s got elements of classical design too: bedside sconces and an upholstered button headboard for an elevated look with nods to enduring European elegance.
