We sat down with Patricia for a chat and find out what made Bill so impressive for her.

Qanvast: What was your priority when looking for an interior designer?

Patricia (P): Going into the renovation, I was quite paranoid because people around me were saying that they had a bad experience with their renovation. Therefore, it was important for me to find an interior designer who is not just able to come up with designs but who is committed and who will consistently follow up with the progress of the entire project.

Qanvast: What made Bill from Aart Boxx Interior the right designer for you?

P: I met up with two interior design firms – Aart Boxx Interior and another firm. I found that other interior design firm to be quite undependable because they promised to do up a 3D design for me but they did not get back to me after quite a while.

On the other hand, Bill had a very good attitude. He took the time to understand my requirements and by the second meeting – which was in less than week – he was able to present the floor plan and the breakdown of the costs to me. His breakdown was also very clear unlike the generic breakdown given to me by the other firm.

Qanvast: How did you envision your home to look like?

P: I wanted a minimalist design that incorporates clean lines and this theme has to be consistent throughout my home. Basically, everything has to look simple, neat and uncluttered.

Qanvast: Did you have a pleasant time working with Bill on your home project

P: Yes. He was professional and had a good attitude. That really mattered to me. I could also communicate well with him and he knew what I wanted so he could come up with good ideas that fit my requirements. As I didn’t really have any specific ideas in mind, I left it up to Bill to conceptualise the designs and he did not disappoint in that regard.

Qanvast: Can you share about one practical design that Bill came up with?

P: I do not require a dining table so Bill helped me to customise the table top in my kitchen so that it could be used in three ways: for preparation of food, cooking and eating.

Qanvast: How did Bill ensure that you have a smooth renovation journey?

P: He was very good at project management. He took care of everything for me so there could be minimal supervision on my part. I didn’t have to come down much to oversee the progress of the renovation because he ensured that everything was proceeding smoothly. In fact, I only came down once during the entire duration of the renovation.

Qanvast: How did you keep your renovation within budget?

P: I went in with the mentality that if something was not within my budget, I would cancel that item off my list. That being said, I believe that it is worth it to spend on carpentry work as carpentry work that is of a good quality can last for a longer time.

Qanvast: Were you happy with the final look of your home?

P: Yes, everything was perfect. Bill’s workers did a very good job with the carpentry. The final result is a home with a cosy, soothing vibe. I love it.

Qanvast: What should homeowners look out for when shopping for an interior designer?

P: Besides looking out for interior designers who have pretty designs in their portfolio, homeowners should also take into account the professionalism of the interior designer. After all, once the renovation begins, if your interior designer does not follow up closely for you, the project will not be able to progress smoothly. Hence, it is really important for homeowners to find an interior designer with a good attitude.

Qanvast: How did the Qanvast app ease your renovation journey?

P: As someone with very high expectations, I felt that the Qanvast app really delivered in terms of its comprehensiveness. I could research about interior designers, refer to other homeowners’ home designs and even look for furniture merchants via the app. On top of that, the app is very user-friendly.
