Feeling hampered by the lack of space in her new home, Pei Shan sought the help of Andrew from D5 Studio Image to come up with practical designs so that the lack of space wouldn’t be an issue.
We sit down for a chat with her and find out why she felt so at ease working with Andrew that she didn’t even have come down at all to check on her renovation progress.
Qanvast: What were some of the requirements that you wanted for your home?
Pei Shan (PS): As my home is on a high floor, there is a lot of wind which brings in dust from the windows. As such, I wanted a darker theme and simple built-in features so that my home is easier to clean. Additionally, I wanted a café look for my kitchen and dining area because I love to bake.
Qanvast: Did Andrew take into account your passion for baking when designing your kitchen?
PS: Yes, he did. Even without me telling him, he knew that I wanted a huge kitchen counter so that I would have enough space to bake. He also recommended laminates that were heat-resistant so that the counter would not be damaged when I place my baked goods on it.
Qanvast: What other practical designs did Andrew came up with?
PS: Andrew recommended constructing a storage platform under the bed since there isn’t much space in our room to have too many built-in cabinets. I didn’t think it was very important at first but after moving in, I realised that it’s a very practical design because we can store our things in it.
PS: We also partitioned the living space so that there is a nook where I can place my daughter’s piano and some gym equipment. To make this dark and cramped corner look more spacious, we added a mirrored panel on the wall so that light can bounce and reflect off it.
Qanvast: Did you have a pleasant time working with Andrew during the renovation?
PS: Yes. As compared to my friends who faced many issues during their renovation, I didn’t find anything stressful at all about my renovation because Andrew really managed the project very well.
PS: I felt so at ease leaving Andrew in charge of the renovation that I didn’t come down at all to observe the progress of the renovation even though my old home is just a three-minute walk away from my new home.
Qanvast: Did Andrew involve you in the renovation process although you did not come down?
PS: Even though I told Andrew that he could take charge of the renovation because I was very busy handling the sale of my previous home, he still made sure to ask for my opinions when it came to the design.
Qanvast: Tell us about an instance when Andrew showed exceptional service?
PS: When I told Andrew that I felt it would be better if the glass partition in the bathroom was taller by one or two inches so that the water would not accidentally splash out when we are showering, he helped us to replace the glass panels with taller glass panels. He didn’t even charge us extra for it.
Qanvast: Are you happy with the way your home turned out?
PS: Yes. The quality of the workmanship is great. Although we’ve been living in this home for about five months already, we find that everything still looks brand new.
