What do you look out for in selecting a trusted home professional to work on your home?
In our series of interviews on Qanvast homeowners’ renovation journeys, we picked the brains on Qanvast homeowners on what matters most when it is time for them to selecting the right designer.
1. Design – I need an interior designer to create my dream home
We may have some vague ideas in what we want in our home, but naturally, we will want the designer to bring forth and expand our ideas, turning them into a creative, well-designed abode that would make others go green with envy.
Steve Jobs once said: “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” A good designer should be able to advise on what's suitable for your living requirements.
2. Reliability – I need someone whom I can trust
Horror stories on renovation are aplenty. A firm can be an established one but the designer you worked with may not be someone who looks after your best interests. Therefore, reviews of an interior designer are important. There are some homeowners who specifically request for a particular designer that has been rated well by other homeowners.
3. Chemistry – I can ‘click’ better with the interior designer
Similarly to getting a life partner, trust and communication is important. The last thing you would want is someone who doesn’t fully understand or incorrectly interpreted your requirements, and then you have to spend time (and money) mending things.
4. Price – The price has to be reasonable and ‘value for money’
Renovation is a big-ticket item and we have a limited budget set aside for. As such, homeowners tend to get quotes from various firms and then assessed how they can maximise the mileage of the budget based on the work done and quality.
5. Service – I need all the help I can get
Renovation is not an easy process. Instead of having to deal with it ourselves, we would very much prefer to seek the professional opinion of an interior designer.
From choosing colours to spatial planning and finally, handling and coordinating with several contractors and workers, we would gladly let a professional manage all this without having to disrupt our busy schedule.
