Project Details

Preserving a small part of Little India, an area rich in history, with a mix of old attractions and new, trendy hang outs. It is a stone’s throw from the main attractions but in a quaint and unpretentious neighbourhood. It offers an alternative side of Singapore. We fell in love with the old fittings – the old window grilles, metal door shutters, mosaic tiles – at first sight. So we tried to preserve the place, not just the fittings but the history and soul too, in as many ways as possible. The brief was to design around local arts & music within a tight budget, and also to provide comfort and quality without guests having to pay hotel rates. We went a bit further by making it social through introducing interactive wall surfaces for guests’ interaction/artistic expressions & being eco friendly as well, by using recycled timber finishes, energy efficient fixtures. Wall murals along the corridors are from collaborative work with the 3 local illustrators : 1 – 1st storey by fFurious ( music revolution ) 2 – 2nd storey by momorobo ( gold fish money ) 3 – 3rd storey by Antz ( manga attack!). The brief to them was – your Singapore life.
