Good Sales Pitch but let down on delivery

Reviewed by Karen Young・Submitted 14 Sep 2022・ Project completed Aug 2022・Designer Female ID

ID was attentive and seemed flexible with what we needed and we shared the tight timeline on our first few meetings so we selected this company. She said 6 weeks was not a problem even though it was over the CNY period this year (2022). There was not much carpentry (only kitchen) and the rest were flooring, painting and changing of windows. However after we paid the deposit, the completion date kept pushing further and eventually we had to find another place to stay. Unfortunately, we found ourselves doing our own research for simple items like the joints between the bedrooms and living floor area as the vinyl flooring was different. She gave us samples of low quality joints which we did not accept and finally we had to show her photos of what we wanted and her sub-contractor provided the ones we liked. She also told us it was fine to install the water heater in the master bathroom and there was supposed to have built in shelves for our toiletries, only to be told that the weight of the water heater cannot be mounted on the cement blocks she had selected. So eventually we scrapped the alcove shelfing in order to accommodate the water heater on the wall. We told her where we wanted the hand held spray for the common bath but she didn't rely this message to the plumber so it was placed on the wrong side. when we told the plumber to change it, he didn't remove the pipe but ran it across the back of the toilet bowl and to the place where it should have been installed. There were other issues like the top cabinet door in the kitchen wasn't planned properly and we had to adjust the ceiling lights in order for the door to close. The painting done seemed fine but after 3 months, we noticed a discolouration on the ceiling. The good thing is - she did arrange for the painter to repaint the ceiling quickly after we gave feedback on this. When selecting a company, perhaps we should have also read reviews on the IDs to choose one that's got a good track record. The ID we had seemed to lack knowledge and we felt she wasn't committed to our renovation. She once told my children she had other jobs that was worth much more than our renovation so ours wasn't a priority. We felt she didn't deliver what we asked for.

Good design ideas!

We engaged IdeasXchange because we were taken by their portfolio online. Our ID Norris from IdeasXchange was experienced and had good design suggestions. We left him to carry out the works on his own and he was able to pull off what we conceptualized. We were impressed with the end result. He was also able to keep to timeline and budget.

Ideasxhange was recommended to us by a friend. We met up with a few IDs but the best was Ideasxchange. Caine, our ID, proposed to us good creative ideas and design with a good price unlike other IDs whose designs were pretty normal. Even the 3D design came pretty fast, before we even made any payment. For any things that we are not happy along the renovation, Caine is just one call away. Everything went excellently smooth. Caine is able to fulfill all our requests. It was a very good and easy experience working with them. We are very happy with the renovation done. Even our neighbours asked about our ID after seeing our place. We had also recommended them to our friends. Renovation completed in: July 2017 Cost of renovation: $60,000

We decided to engage Ideasxchange out of the few IDs we shortlisted as we felt comfortable working with the ID, Albert. He is very efficient and communicated well with us. It was a pleasant and fuss free renovation process. Albert handled all the renovation and we don't have to drop by regularly to check on things. It really helped us as we are busy with work. An aspect for further improvement will be with regards to their sub-contractors as we do not have a good communication with them. Overall we are happy with the renovation. Renovation completed in: March 2017 Cost of renovation: $45,000

Ideasxchange was recommended by one of our friend. As we have seen the works done by them, we decide to engage them for our renovation too. We didn't communicate much with our ID, Albert. We briefly told him that we want it to be simple and some of our colours preferences. With only that, he came out with a design that is not what we have visioned and we are surprised that he can actually know what style we want with a minimal communication. Albert is also a good adviser. He advised us not to cover up the aircon piping behind the walls even if we want our house to look beautiful like some people actually did. In future, if anything goes wrong with the piping, we need to hacks those walls and we've seen it! We are lucky to heed his advice and we felt its cost-effective. As i had a lot of things customised, he advised us on which things that can be done and those that can't be done. There are some parts of the dresser which i saw and wanted mine to be customised just like that, Albert is able to work on it. In times of hiccup, they tried their best to rectify it and we didn't have to wait for long. Everything was done pretty good and smoothly. For further improvement, i hope they will work on their paint work as we find it not meticulous enough. Although we knew it doesn't come from the ID side, we did voice out to them. Overall, we are impressed by their works and it was a pleasant experience working with them. Renovation completed in: July 2016 Cost of renovation: $40,000

We got to know Ideasxchange through Qanvast app. After consulting a few IDs, we decide to engage them for our renovations for their design. During our meet up, the ID did hand drawn the designs. We liked they way colour being played around in the design. During the renovation, there are some hiccups which we encounterd such as wrong measurement taken and some delays. For further improvement, i hoped the ID would have been more aggressive in communicating and things could have been avoided. Renovation completed in: October 2016 Cost of renovation: $ 35,00

Got to know Ideasxchange online and read through their reviews through Qanvast app. I decide to engage them for their price and plus they are located near to my office. Albert and partner are able to accomodate to my request. As i had a design that i want, there are changes that had to be made along the way. Even when asked to re-do and re-paint over and over again, they did not tell me that they can't do so or incur any additional charges. Their design was ordinary if to be compared to well known designer. They did provide a few 3D drawing to be chosen which i find not necessary but instead to work and improve on the designs in details. Overall, i am satisfied with their works. After consulting a few IDs, we made our final choice to engage Ideasxchange as they had more creative ideas for me to choose from. The ideas they proposed was a different kind of design as compared to the other id's. We are impressed by their professional ideas. Albert & Yen is very responsible. I am able to put my mind at peace and handled everything to them as i am busy working and only had time to go down during the weekends. They are able to work out any changes that i want to make. The renovation went smoothly without any problems. Their after sales service is excellent too! They did came by to change some lightings as per my request even after the renovation was completed. An aspect for further improvement will be with their workmanship, especially their carpentry. Renovation completed in: October 2016 Cost of renovation: $80,000

I was introduced to IX by a friend, after the purchase of my new property. Our assigned designer at IX was Caine. The words which came to mind during the initial consultation with our designer. Well, he was young, knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating. IX was pricey when compared to the rest of the IDs who submitted their quotes. I believe you get what you pay, and in my scenario, I felt the premium paid gave me a problem solver. I am going to save you the boring details in their entirety, and go straight to the summary. The main reason why I choose IX/Caine as my ID? I feel renovating one’s abode is a personal milestone in life. I envisage the process to be free of anger and frustration, even before I have a chance to move in. I was hoping the process to be managed, with most if not all of my concerns mitigated and addressed. I saw that in IX/Caine as I went thru the process. And lads that’s it. I was happy with the work done to my abode! And I felt it was money well spent. Have a good one all!
