Sometimes you just know it when you’ve found the right interior designer for the job.
Homeowner Alvin and his wife met Joey from Forefront Interior, whose technical expertise and confidence really impressed them. We sat down with Alvin who shares more about how Joey helped make his renovation journey a pleasant and fuss-free one.
Qanvast: Tell us how you came to enlist the services of Joey from Forefront Interior.
Alvin (A): I did not want to spend too much time on meeting interior designers so I shortlisted Forefront Interior as I knew they specialised in minimalistic designs – which was what I wanted.
When I met Joey, I felt that he possessed a lot of technical knowledge and we had chemistry. He did a really good job on advising me on the feasibility of my ideas. Hence, I felt that I could trust him to coordinate the renovation.
Qanvast: What is it that you like about minimalistic design?
A: After a hard day at work, I wanted to be able to come home to a place which is clean and clutter-free.
I’m a bit of a neat freak so it is very important for my home to be organised.
Qanvast: What were some creative designs that Joey came up with?
A: At the start of the renovation, I gave Joey a broad idea of what I wanted and he played around with it. I also emphasized to him that I did not want my home to look too common and he suggested that I use mosaic tiles for the living room for a unique look.
He also suggested using a marble laminate for the kitchen island, and convinced me to go for a Peranakan-looking wall feature. It is now one of my favourite spots in the home.
Qanvast: In what ways did Joey help you during the renovation?
A: Joey came up with a 3D design which helped us to decide on the shade of vinyl that we wanted to use in our home. Initially, I wanted a lighter shade as I felt that it would make my home look brighter and more spacious. However, after seeing the 3D design, my wife and I felt that the darker tone worked better with our home.
Whenever we went to purchase furniture, we would also consult Joey and he would give us his advice.
Qanvast: Were there any hiccups during the renovation and how did Joey resolve these?
A: Joey helped us to arrange for rectifications when any hiccups occurred. For instance, our cement screeding was not done properly so Joey asked the contractor to level parts of it. Other than that, there were few hiccups. It was a relatively smooth renovation journey.
