An industrial theme was what the owner was seeking for. Black frames & cement laminates is widely used in the whole house to create an industrial touch. Shoe cabinet created with black aluminium frame was a design that was highly sought for because it adds character to the house and not just cluttered by carpentry. Leading into the living area, the cement grid wall is actually a feature wall design that many homeowner have specially come to us for. We created a cement grid feel that you see at industrial areas, yet it is easy to maintain and is actually one of the many stucco wall creations. The unique part of the kitchen is the stainless steel backing used instead of subway tiles, tempered glass, or kompacplus backing which is commonly used this days. Stainless steel backing was widely used in the past, but not so much in the modern context. Matching with the black and grey theme, the kitchen gives off a raw overall feel. Bedroom has a mini-walk-in wardrobe area, with one side being a half height cabinet that acts as storage, as well as, a divider for privacy when sleeping on the platform created by us that blends in with the TV feature wall, as a focal point of the whole room. Same tone of black and grey goes into the bedroom, creating a cozy feel.

Wabi sabi design for a family of 3

Reviewed by Lovestore Floral・Submitted 11 Mar 2023・ Project completed Nov 2022・Designer Shikin

The experience designing our new home with Shikin was great. She responded fast (even on weekends and public holidays), paid attention to details to include interesting elements in the design, and had always been easy to speak to (always pleasant in her tone no matter how many last min changes we needed). I appreciate how she understood the design style I was going for and helped marry them with the practical needs of our newly expanded family. For example, she spent some time hunting for and guiding me through the process of selecting the textured wall paint I want to create the wabi sabi ambience I was looking for within budget. She was also a good project manager, always communicating timelines, changes in budget, options and potential delays clearly and effectively. The workmanship of the built in works and installations have been great so far. Felt we were in safe pair of hands throughout the entire process. I would recommend Shikin to anyone who would like a reliable and creative designer - say no to cookie cutter designs!
