Renovation review

Reviewed by Tan Ying・Submitted 8 Oct 2021・Project completed Aug 2021・Designer Hayley

Before I start on my review, I would like to state that I am actually rather resistant to having an ID. With numerous myths about how an ID adds costs to the project by just being there etc were rumours by several people who 1) had a bad experience with a project manager or 2) never hired one before. So you can see how skeptical I am from other people’s opinions. Hayley came recommended to us by my partner’s colleague. So we thought, rather than to pick an ID blind on the internet, we might as well give it a try with someone who has worked on her colleague’s home. We first met uneventfully after some delay, due to the Coronavirus starting to take traction. After that we had several meetings with her and her electrician which we ironed out several details of renovation. I would like to highly commend that even before a single cent is paid, Hayley has been very thorough in her scope of renovation works and gave us a detailed quotation. She was also very helpful and patient as being the first time doing a proper renovation we had many (silly) questions which she gave answers to. Hayley also helped us translate our design wishes to “contractor lingo” which I thought was the most important part of the whole project! She was great at that so most of our plans came to fruition! Getting that lingo right was very important so that the Tiler, Carpenter, Electrician etc are all on the same page as us design wise. It also helped she had a great team of contractors doing a good job. Design wise Hayley had great taste as well! She had a great eye for colour and helped guide us on our colour scheme. We also had many meetings with many other contractors as well to see the material and colour of laminates, tiles etc, instead of picking off the sample book which showed a small tiny piece. This is one step I will advise everyone NOT TO SKIP! Many tiles/laminates look different in a 2cm by 2cm in a booklet vs a big whole piece which you will see at the shop! She also advised us on the appropriate material for surfaces, so that our renovation will last us a long time, which is very important, than to pick something that will warp in a few years or become ugly eg. counter tops. She also did a 3D design which gave us a very good idea of how our home will look like after renovation. We also had a WeChat group chat which is very helpful as Hayley is very responsive to our (silly) questions as well as updates on renovation- which is important in our renovation works stalled. As we were renting outside whilst our home was renovated, Hayley kept in touch with us on every step so we know how long we needed to extend our rental and arrange for movers to move home. As we were very happy with the experience with Hayley so far, we even decided to do our remaining bedroom which we initially wanted to keep it untouched! Good decision on hindsight! Now our entire home is so beautiful! We almost never want to go for staycation anymore and we would want to go home once we are done with our shopping outside! Looking around me now I wouldn’t have traded it for anything else. In conclusion, it was time and money well spent! We wouldn’t have done it any other way! So, if you want to renovate your home, choosing Hayley as your ID will never be wrong!
