It has been 3.5mths since handover and 2mths since my family moved into our new home. I want to share my experience on my 1st major home renovation. It is a resale unit of 21 years with kitchen cabinets, bedroom wardrobes, toilets, all floorings doors etc in their original condition. There are some custom made furniture for the living room & common rooms. Basically all have to go as it is not in its best condition plus outdated. I contacted 4 designers, met up with them with floorplan and the design I have in mind. I always wanted an island for my kitchen as I regretted very much for my 1st home because I didn't put emphasis on kitchen space. Hence, as my family grows, I got frustrated with the limitations in terms of space & functionality. Although my new home comes with a bigger kitchen, it is nevertheless challenging to realise my island dream. 3 designers failed to come up with a suitable island design when I met them for the 2nd & 3rd time, but quotation ready 😒, citing space constraints etc. I was kind of discouraged and 'believe' maybe the designers were right. The day before I met my 4th designer(3rd appt), I decided to go for an ad-hoc appt with a 5th designer(Irvin) just for the sake of it since none has given me 'hope'. When I told her my 'island' dream, she paused and I saw she was deep in her thoughts. THEN she took out a blank paper, pencil & ruler and start drawing the kitchen layout. She drew a peninsula! I saw how she planned the space, making sure there was adequate walking & working space with the peninsula idea. You would not understand how happy I was! Why did nobody think of that??!! I met my 4th designer the next day and what a disappointment. BesideS not coming up with what I wanted, he still gave me the 'impossible' look. I realised getting a designer who uses their heart is important. Although what Irvin proposed is a peninsula, she understood the essence of my thoughts. Kudos to her ingenious idea! That's my BIG 'why' I engaged Irvin because I know I can trust her. The working experience with Irvin was great, basically no need to worry because she single_handedly liaised with all contractors. We only popped in to see the progress though she updated us in our chatgroup. Communication is a breeze cos somehow she knows what I'm thinking before I even question/ask, I put that down to experience 👍🏻. Last but not least, the workmanship quality is excellent 👍 Irvin is a meticulous person and genuine in her approach, we are very lucky to have her as our designer ❤️ Oh yah we like to thank her for her space planning for our utility room & master bedroom toilet, it really make a huge difference and maximise space. All my friends & relatives are wowed by the spaciousness! Me & hubby didn't quite grasp her idea initially and ARE GLAD we trusted her 'vision' 🤣🤣🤣
