Good Sales Pitch but let down on delivery

Reviewed by Karen Young・Submitted 14 Sep 2022・ Project completed Sep 2022・Designer Female ID

ID was attentive and seemed flexible with what we needed and we shared the tight timeline on our first few meetings so we selected this company. She said 6 weeks was not a problem even though it was over the CNY period this year (2022). There was not much carpentry (only kitchen) and the rest were flooring, painting and changing of windows. However after we paid the deposit, the completion date kept pushing further and eventually we had to find another place to stay. Unfortunately, we found ourselves doing our own research for simple items like the joints between the bedrooms and living floor area as the vinyl flooring was different. She gave us samples of low quality joints which we did not accept and finally we had to show her photos of what we wanted and her sub-contractor provided the ones we liked. She also told us it was fine to install the water heater in the master bathroom and there was supposed to have built in shelves for our toiletries, only to be told that the weight of the water heater cannot be mounted on the cement blocks she had selected. So eventually we scrapped the alcove shelfing in order to accommodate the water heater on the wall. We told her where we wanted the hand held spray for the common bath but she didn't rely this message to the plumber so it was placed on the wrong side. when we told the plumber to change it, he didn't remove the pipe but ran it across the back of the toilet bowl and to the place where it should have been installed. There were other issues like the top cabinet door in the kitchen wasn't planned properly and we had to adjust the ceiling lights in order for the door to close. The painting done seemed fine but after 3 months, we noticed a discolouration on the ceiling. The good thing is - she did arrange for the painter to repaint the ceiling quickly after we gave feedback on this. When selecting a company, perhaps we should have also read reviews on the IDs to choose one that's got a good track record. The ID we had seemed to lack knowledge and we felt she wasn't committed to our renovation. She once told my children she had other jobs that was worth much more than our renovation so ours wasn't a priority. We felt she didn't deliver what we asked for.
