After meeting a few IDs, we decided to go with Roy because he offered his own useful suggestions and perspectives and at the same time, was very open to our ideas and preferences. For example, during our initial meetings, he was open to our preference of keeping the marble floors of our resale flat and was prepared to work around any unexpected issues which could arise from the hacking of walls (which did come up in the end haha). This quality remained evident throughout the reno journey. We made a few changes from the initial plan/3D design based on our needs/preferences that changed along the way, and Roy was very accommodating and flexible. We felt that he really listened to what we wanted and was able to value-add further through his suggestions. Through this reno process, we could tell that Roy takes a lot of pride in his work. Honestly, this is the most important quality in an ID. We never felt that this was just a job to him or that he was just trying to get this project done with. He took the initiative to make things better (e.g. proposing design ideas that may require more cost and effort on his part, taking note of small things like what kind of bathroom drainage), got things settled without troubling us (e.g. changing our neighbours pipes) and rectified any issues that came about promptly. The reno journey was not without its challenges, but working with Roy made it much easier and relatively fuss-free. Even post-reno, he is still available to help us settle or rectify issues. Roy is a good project manager. He gave us regular updates on the reno progress and ensured that we were able to move in on schedule. He was also easy to communicate with and was very prompt in his replies to our questions. Overall, we had a very good experience working with Roy and would highly recommend him for anyone looking for an ID.
