To team Nicholas & Kerni, thanks for the journey so far until today. We were looking at a little modern farmhouse theme and they really put through their expertise into the 3D rendering. They've got pretty good eyes with colours and the materials, since we have little to no experience with what goes with which. In the end it came together perfectly, and we absolutely love our settee in the living area. The colours pop of the kitchen carpentry really catches the eye. Also, our favourite part of the kitchen is the backsplash! Always immediate reply to our questions or concerns about the timeline of completion or even minor defects during the reno. Overall, 101 stars out of 100. Very well recommended!!

Honest Review of Charisa Cha - Massing Design

Reviewed by 小猫・Submitted 18 Aug 2023・ Project completed Aug 2023・Designer Charisa Cha

28th Feb 2023 - 01 Aug 2023 *will provide more photo when house more tidy* My renovation journey ~~~ A whopping 6 months of long renovation. Visited 11 renovation companies, met up with many IDs to discuss my ideal home renovation, quotation given ranges from 100k to 150K. It's a far cry from 50K years ago to do up a complete home.... most of the quotes are close to the range and I guess there is no way to do it within 70K including all appliances. As I have the advantage of time since my CCK lease ends in July 2023, I decided to plan way ahead in Feb 2023 and SLOWLY do up a home that I really love. I finally found Charisa from Massing Design when I saw her post glass panels fabricated and shipped in from Taobao. Almost all her stuffs are from Taobao and I knew she is the one that I am going to engage. She visited me in Cuppage and sat down to listen to my idea of having a monochromatic theme home, black and white colour that models after my pets Baileys and Guiness. Throughout the months leading to 01 Aug 2023, i dont remember how many amendments I made to the idea and layout that I want and NOT ONCE Charisa sounded irritated and she dont just handle my home alone, she has at least 4-5 projects at hand all around Punggol estate. Truth be told, I am very impressed with her professionalism and attitude. I will hands down choose Charisa again if I have another home to renovate. She did well and above what any ID will ever do. Roll down her sleeves and help carry my 86inch to mount on the wall with the handyman, setup and install my digital lock, help install my oven, mop and clean my cabinet, help me buy a picture frame and install to cover my ugly DB box, there are a lot of things that requires build in and she will also study again and again on the spec and input it inside the detail drawing to make sure everything can fit in nicely, does thing that is completely out from her job scope and many many more that is too long to detail here. I have so much praise for her that one post detailing what she has done for me is not enough. The journey hasn't been smooth and it was a bit overwhelming when hiccups happened she was all for it and resolve one thing after another for me. For example the taobao toilet bowl when installed couldn't even flush 1 piece of toilet paper. Guess who resolve the issue? Charisa did. I dunno what magic she did but she solved it. Now i can just heel kick to flush without even touching or pressing the flush switch. Bought a hood that can be turn on by a Queen Elizabeth wave and it was beautifully designed to have a hidden piping system that will extract the cooking fumes and expel out to the window. Designed and conceptualise by hers truly Charisa. Save alot from engaging a professional company to lay the piping. It's been too long and once I have clean up the house will upload more image To Charisa, thank you so much for this 6 months of coordinating my renovation and advising me the dos and donts and sticking to my budget. You are definitely one of the very rare architect cum ID that went above and beyond for your clients. I am thankful for you being there for me throughout this journey. You truly deserved a 1000 words thank you testimonial.

Horrible experience

Reviewed by Wang Weiyuan・Submitted 24 Jul 2023・ Project completed Apr 2023・Designer Charisa Chan

We engaged Charisa as our ID back in Nov 2022. Demolition works started on the first week of Jan, and the clearing of debris was completed before CNY. That's when our horror started. There were minimal works (i.e 2 days per week, and was told that it is normal) carried out after CNY, and for weeks, we asked if we were on schedule multiple times and were told, "Don't worry, we are on track." We insisted on the project timeline as we sensed something wrong and were given a shocking 2 months delay. Only at that point did Charisa come clean and said that she miscalculated the timeline and needed more time to complete this project. Communication with Massing was horrible. Every time we gave an instruction, we always go up to our house in shock. They can't seem to get anything right. We gave them all the appliances' dimensions and even arranged for physical items to be there, but they still got the dimensions wrong. Carpentry discussion started somewhere in early February, and design was only finalised in early April, bcos they needed more time as charisa was overseas & then later fell sick. Adding on to more horror, just prior to carpentry fabrication, we were told that our kitchen design is not doable as they got the dimensions of the kitchen pipe wrong. Instead of it being at the tall cabinet, it is now at the location of our stove. The pipe has been exposed since January (3 months), and we were assured that she went up to do the measurement herself. But she could still get it wrong. Even the sequence of work itself was wrong. When our new contractor took over, he questioned why the water proofing was done so low for the kitchen. To our horror, we were told waterproofing was normally done before screeding, but massing did the opposite. Being new homeowners with lots of ideas, Charisa gave no advice on whether our ideas were workable or legal. When our new contractor took over, he spotted a lot of design flaws, which massing gave no advice against. 1 is the tight space that will hinder washing machine replacement. The 2nd, she routed aircon trunking into where my carpentry was supposed to be. In the event that there is a leakage, the carpentry might be damaged due to that. Even the electrician that was introduced (Nikson, YK Electrical Engineering) by Charisa was a horror. Our new contractor pointed out a lot of unsafe works that were done. Live cables were run in parallel to my water pipes in the bathroom. Live wires were conveniently tucked into aircon trunking instead of properly secured. Multiple sockets were looped to a single breaker. Because of the inexperienced design by Massing, we had to fork out a lot more to correct those unsafe works that were previously carried out. And to make good the surfaces of the house. We practically tore down everything, but whole house plastering wasn't advised to be done by massing. Charisa eventually asked if we wanted a change in designer, and that point, we told her that if having a change in designer can resolve our issues, we will have a change in design. Luis, the manager, then gave us 2 choices. The first being he himself taking over the rest of the works and giving us a new timeline, and second, they will finish the on-hand works, and we find someone else to take over. At that point, it was already the first week of April, and we were thinking of biting the bullet to let him finish through. But the replies he gave showed us that he had no interest in finishing up the project, and we decided that it is in our interest to part ways. It took them almost 3 weeks to finalise the final quotation of works done by them and also the on-hand outstanding works (minor tiling and partition works). 16 weeks of renovation, and we don't have a house to stay. Our worse choice to engage Massing Design. Utterly disappointed.
