My husband and I had come up with all base ideas for our house. From tiles to rough measurements to what we wanted at which location. We were desperately looking for someone who could understand the exacts of what we wanted and help to make it work. After going through qanvast, redbrick and other ID sites, right as we were going to settle with another ID, my brother had introduced Phyllis from Massing Design to us. The day we met her, she felt trustworthy and it felt like she understood exactly what we were looking for. One key factor was that it was easy to converse with her. The other IDs that we had met did not listen to what we wanted, and more importantly, it was so difficult to speak to them. We met up with Phyllis a few other times to discuss laminates, paints, textures. And she had brought us along to get fixtures for the toilets, service yard and kitchen. (P.S Just a quick tip for those on your own reno journey - during our scouring for fixtures, even on our own, do looks through multiple sites like shopee, taobao, lazada, go to JB if you can, as early as you can. Saving things, liking things, screenshoting things you like will narrow down what you actually like and want. Certain parts can save you quite a but of cash. But for main items like your toilet, sink, basin cabinet, sinks, hob and hoods - do look for them within the country👍🏻) Work started really quickly from hacking to tiling, but things started to slow down from there. It may be likely due to how the timeline was set, that made it feel like thing should have moving faster. But as we have a 4-room flat, we kinda understood that it was a waiting game for things like, cement and grouting to dry, deliveries, electricals to start and end, fixtures to be set up, and carpentry fabrication. It didn't help that we are kiasu/kiasi and work nearby, and were coming down almost on the daily to check on things. We only bumped into the site supervisor a handful of times while we were around, and managed to catch a most of the issues that occured during the reno process. There were a few hiccups along the way that had been brought up prior with partitioning being missed out on being put up, lamination colours being wrong, limewash not being in the pattern we wanted and such, but honestly with projects like these we understand that it was bound to happen. They were rectified quite quickly as we mentioned everything that we had noticed the moment we came by. Phyllis had a lot to deal with as the hubs and I drew out the layout of the home we wanted from scratch. This probably was the vice in everything as it made us want to get everything right the first time. Which we should have mentally prepared ourselves for from the start as with reno, things are bound to go wrong at some point. The hubs is OCD about things that I'm not and vice versa. So things that stood out to him or myself are completely different, and was rectified by Phyllis and her team whenever mentioned. Despite all the hiccups and issues that have surfaced along the way, we both felt we did not make a made choice engaging Phyllis and her team for the works to our resale unit as everything has been at least 98% up to standard, minus a few things pending fixing. Photos will be up soon!
