We assessed the firms that we met up with based on their quotation, design and communication skills, and we felt most comfortable with Shawn from Project Guru. We felt that he understands our requirements and we could also see where he was coming from. He listened to what we have in mind, rather than pushing us ideas we didn’t like. Shawn went shopping for tiles with us and he helped us to select tiles that would match the design of our home. Originally, I was concerned that the matte floor tiles which he chose looked a bit cold and raw but Shawn advised us that it would give more character to the house so we decided to go with his suggestion. In the end, it turned out to be one of the best design decisions we made. Shawn was also quick to send his staff (on the same or next day) should there be any rectification works required.

Elton was the most pro-active out of all the five interior designers that we met. Even before we signed a contract with him, he took the initiative to set up a WhatsApp chat group and began sharing ideas with us even though he was not obligated to. Compared to the other designers, he was definitely the best at space planning. Elton also gave us a shopping list where he listed down the kind of furniture and furnishings that we should be looking out and shops where we could find them. He also helped us to work out specific details such as how many pieces of lighting to buy and what length of lighting we should be looking out for. Essentially, he made it very easy for us to find furniture and furnishings which fit our theme. We like that Elton does not make decisions for us. Instead, he would tell us from his professional viewpoint about the pros and cons of selecting a particular material for instance and leave it up to us to make the decision. He was also very patient and gave us time to think about things when we could not come to an immediate decision. His responsiveness was outstanding. During the renovation period, he got things done efficiently. Even after the renovation was complete, he would still attend to our needs and help us to carry out any rectifications that needed to be done. As i graduated from Architecture, i am looking forward to engage an ID to work out on my ideas. We shortlisted quite a number of them. Out of the 2 best, we decide to engage Project Guru. They are the only one that came back to me with a 3D layout which i thought was good as they dont really have to. They listened very well, understood and able to accommodate my ideas. Even the materials and colours is narrowed down. The service they provided was really good. Not only they are able to meet up at my convenience, they would also update me regularly. If there is anything for them to improve on, i would say of some minor things like their coordination of things like example lights, as i am a detailed person. Also to improve on their cleanliness such as small markings on the cabinets/wood as it could have been more flawless. Renovation completed in: March 2017
Initially, we wanted to hire a contractor but he couldn’t give practical advice or simple design-related ideas. Thomas from Project Guru was the only interior designer, out of the 5 that Qanvast recommended, who followed up with us after 3 months from first point of contact. He was very sincere and proposed fantastic design solutions, he also worked very closely with our budget and was willing to compromise when it comes to ideas. He would take our feedback into consideration. He’s very friendly, diligent and was great at managing the whole project, he’s also very responsive when it comes to rectification. We had a very comfortable working relationship with him and we also recommended his service to our friends as the quality is great as well.
I asked for a quote online and Project Guru replied. I have decided to engage their services as I managed to exclude/amend items on the quote to get it to an acceptable price. Generally not much issues during the renovation process. Some hiccups that happened along the way - painting of the living room wall was poorly done and I had to get them to repaint, the aircon contractors were always late, the glass shower screen in the bathrooms were not long enough and water was splashing over. I also had to tell them to put impact/contact pads as the handles of bathroom doors will hit the wall when opening quickly. There is also no mirrors at all, and it will be better if they have asked if I wanted any. That said, I am impressed by their services, where they accommodated to my request to plaster kitchen wall. The whole building process was pretty smooth, kept me informed of progress and asked me on things needing a decision. There is also no hidden costs and no issue with the quality of the workmanship. Despite leaving out an important requirement that I had for the kitchen counter top, they tried to do something in return. I feel that they can put themselves in the shoes of their clients more and see if what they've designed/built fulfils the client's intended purpose. More attention can be given to the details too.
