Let’s get the TLDR out of the way - if you want an ID to just nod and stamp your every whim, you can close this review now. But if you want an ID to envision and cocreate your dream home with you, to guide you through the inevitable issues that comes with revamping a resale flat, and sometimes even challenge you to make both functional and aesthetically pleasing decisions about your home - you can look no further in partnering Melvin and CYID. Right from our first meeting, Melvin listened to our requirements projected competent confidence in answering our questions. We were moving from a small flat to a much larger 40+ yo unit - a major undertaking to say the least. During our second meeting, Melvin did not do what other IDs had done, which was to show us a top down floor plan; instead he surprised us with 3D sketch design that allowed us to easily visualise his proposal. As if we weren’t already blown away by the level of detail, Melvin demonstrated sublime understanding of our requirements, by suggesting we knock down a couple of walls to create more common space for our family. Before we had even picked our jaws off the floor from the previous two revelations, he then showed us how to best line our house with ample storage befitting the needs of a family with active young children. When we began our journey, a sagely advice given to us was that choosing an ID was all about the synergy and fit with our working style. After we left the CYID office, the wife immediately turned to me and said “This one.” Gut check passed, Yes Ma’am. At this point you might expect us to say the entire renovation process went smoothly and… Actually we had ALOT of curveballs - we got the keys to the place late due to unforeseen circumstances; we had a HDB check process that set hacking commencement back another 2 weeks. To top it off, our deadline did not change. We NEEDED to get it done before CNY2025 (or be straddled with another painful month of rental). So a roughly 10 week blitz including full hacking of floor tiles and replastering walls. Melvin: “We'll try. Can, can.”👌🏻 Sure enough, it was a VERY eventful 10 weeks. Melvin worked to the very last hour of 2024 to help us rush out our carpentry drawings or we wouldn’t be able to get our stone counter tops in before CNY. When we had issues with aircon trunking running very obtrusively through the house, Melvin suggested box out to hide it. I had fancy ideas for display cabinets that I’m sure mortified him, and I am glad he talked me out of some of them to have a very practical yet very minimalist and aesthetically pleasing solution. At every step of the way, he lent us his professional advice. It’s clear he is always on our side. Right before handover in Jan 2025, we had an issue with a self-sourced (not from CYID) contractor who didn’t do a good job, Melvin stepped in on our behalf to pressure them to do corrective works. It was a Herculean effort for both Melvin and CYID, but they did it and met the 25 Jan 2025 deadline. Heck, one of the handyman told us he was shocked at the progress made in Jan 2025. Throughout our renovation journey, Melvin has been responsive, friendly, enthusiatic and reassuring. The final result was beautiful and screams quality! We also want to shout out to the workers and artisans at CYID - each of them exhibited the utmost professionalism dedication to their craft. Uncle Tiler worked very hard late into the night and with utmost care and his trusty laser LED to lay our tiles. The carpentry team did crazy fast and yet very high quality work installing (done in less than a week?!) and later with prompt rectification works. Uncle handyman installed our wall shelves and when he saw we had young kids, he took the initiative to source and install rounded corner guards for us without our prompting. Each truly lived up to their brand to deliver sincere and professional work. We are glad we trusted Melvin and CYID to design and renovate our forever home; you’d be in good hands too. Our only regret is...it is after all our forever home…so we’d prolly not get to work with the great crew at CYID again 🤣 (But you can!)

Even after we moved in, she went above and beyond to help us fix a problem caused by our dog, which truly showed her dedication to her clients. We are absolutely thrilled with the final outcome and couldn’t be happier with our renovated home. Grace and CYID have our highest recommendation! Highly recommend Heidi from Chengyi Interior Design (CID) for your ID and renovation needs. We visited 7 ID firms via Qanvast and ultimately chose CID because Heidi showed the most sincerity and interest in our project. This was important to us, as it felt like she understood the value of this being our first home and it wasn't just another ID job. We appreciated that she was earnest in understanding what we had in mind, her eye for aesthetics and thoughtful design recommendations shown in the first two meetings we had before we signed with CID. And although the design of our place evolved (and some 'interesting' design elements were scrapped) closer to the renovation, she remained enthusiastic about our project and gave us a home that balanced aesthetics with practicality. Heidi's eye for design balanced well with our need for practicality. We had a decent understanding of how we wanted to use certain spaces, so she was able to suggest alternative designs that could accommodate our lifestyle and were selective in where we chose aesthetics vs practicality. It was also really helpful when she shortlisted a few options that would complement each other and fit the theme we had in mind, as it made the decision process of choosing tiles, vinyls and laminates, amongst a thousand other decisions needed, so much more enjoyable and easy! She was also prompt in her replies and managing the renovation overall, which made us feel like we were in safe hands. Any issues that cropped up she would communicate to us promptly with proposed solutions and was also mindful of the budgets we were working with. This we appreciated a lot! Special mention to CID's tilers who showed thoughtfulness and quality in their work, our bathroom tiles were done really well. Even when we had to change the grouting near the end of the project Heidi and team ensured that we were happy with the end result before the handover. Having lived in our home for 3 months now, we love how cosy, beautiful yet practical our space is. So big thank you to Heidi for all the hard work to build our home!

I had the pleasure of working with Grace, and the experience was nothing short of excellent. From the very beginning, she was confident and assured me that she could meet the tight deadline we were working with. And she absolutely delivered! The project was completed on time, with the quality and attention to detail that I had hoped for. Big shoutout to Melvin for making our whole renovation process so smooth and stress-free! From tile selection to the final handover, he was on the ball every step of the way. Picking out laminates and tiles was a breeze because he really understood what we were going for aesthetically and gave us great suggestions that suited our style perfectly. Most of our feature tiles are recommended by him, he really does have a good eye and knows what we like! Of course, every reno has its share of rectifications, but Melvin handled it like a pro. Any issues we had were sorted out super quickly (literally the next day), and we could move in without any delays. On top of that, he always replies to our messages or questions promptly from start to the end. We also have to mention the quality of the carpentry and tiling work – it’s top-notch! Everything is done with such attention to detail. Honestly, we are beyond happy with how our new home turned out. It’s even more beautiful than the renderings we saw earlier. Me and my spouse, being new to engaging an ID for our home came across CYID on social media. Looked through their portfolio and shortlisted Joyce as we felt her style of design resonates with us. First meeting, Joyce was already able to understand our needs (child-friendly and easy maintenance) and helped to provide suggestions which did not cross our mind. And needless to say, the render was exactly what we have envisioned our house to be with all the points discussed being incorporated. During the process of the renovation, timely updates were provided and we were able to leave it to Joyce knowing the works were in good hands. Post renovation, Joyce was also quick to help us rectify minor issues and answer our queries when we had any. 1. When selecting IDs, we had spoken to multiple design firms before deciding on ChengYi, Nicolas in particular. 2. Nicolas was very responsive and patient from the start, and was very willing to engage with us to discuss ideas and propose designs. We needed someone we can talk to with ease, and Nicolas was the right designer for us. We came up with a design that we were very happy with. 3. During the renovation period, Nicolas was very hands-on, always present at the site to supervise the workers and provide instructions as per our design. 4. I must mention several examples when Nicolas went above and beyond: - When we had a complication with the ceiling fans that we purchased, Nicolas personally went down to the retailer's shop to ask some questions to see how it could be resolved. - When we had trouble deciding where to place the cutout for the TV cables, Nicolas came to our place to measure the current position of the TV and how it was mounted. - When one of our power sockets with a USB port appeared to malfunction, Nicolas called the shop where we bought the socket from and got some troubleshooting instructions over the phone and managed to resolve the issue himself. - When we had a change of mind with the height of our false ceiling (fortunately it was right at the start of the false ceiling works), Nicolas was kind enough to get the workers to modify it for us. 5. Nicolas managed the timeline very well and pulled together the resources to work on the project, completing it almost 1 week ahead of schedule (on a 1.5 month project). Overall, I'm happy with the outcome and I would recommend Nicolas to anyone looking to work with ChengYi.

Joyce is a professional, meticulous, artistic yet practical ID. This is our first home, and we were initially quite lost and unclear about what we wanted. We simply gave Joyce broad directions, told her the overall theme that we wanted, and shared some of our living habits. From there, she created a masterpiece that we absolutely loved. Joyce went above and beyond to include seemingly minor yet useful features, accompany us for furniture shopping, and advise us on colour schemes so that each piece would come together perfectly. We’ve hosted many groups of friends and family thus far, and everyone is amazed by how beautiful our house looks despite being a small space.
