Should you be looking for a reliable, committed and understanding interior designer (ID) with modernist aesthetic sensibility, I would highly recommend Zack from Atas Haus. Zack is humble, accommodating, amicable, professional, and patient. He is also a good listener and does not impose his ideas. Many people rely on the reviews or recommendations of others when comes to looking for an interior designer, and I am no different. I want to highlight that some reviews are genuine but not all, and mine is. I am a first time homeowner of a 3-room BTO HDB flat with limited budget and my flat was partially renovated by HDB with most amenities provided. I only had experience with small renovation projects at my previous home and that was decades ago. I had short and demanding time-line due to HDB SERS project, and my personal commitment as a full-time caregiver to my mum with cancer and my pursue of a demanding graduate diploma programme. I had meet up with almost 20 designers and finally settled for Zack, simply because he was down-to-earth, honest, flexible, responsive, and he provided sound, pragmatic and aesthetic advice. Most importantly, he is willing to listen and work within my demanding timeline and limited budget on a win-win basis. Zack was given only two-month schedule to complete upon design finalisation, and it was then the re-opening of the border with Malaysia, with escalating CoVid infection rate locally. Many designers either over promised or tried to squeeze more out of me, in terms of time and budget; yet could not deliver close to what Zack had to offer. Some designers expected absolute submission to their arrogance with an attitude of “take it or leave it”, limited capabilities of themselves and their supporting team of workers, and an unrealistic quotation for a simple design. Some designers took days to respond, and some didn’t even bother. Zack had been patient, thoughtful and kind. I had deferred my respond to his initial quotation for two months due to my personal commitments. My limited budget, the lifestyles of mum and I, and my indecisiveness had caused Zack to revise his quotation and design more than a dozen times, and delayed the project commencement. Yet, Zack could complete within the required timeline, and without complain but with empathy to my situation. Zack’s professionalism went beyond just design and workmanship, and most importantly after project completion. Rectifications were done over several times as I was particularly fussy. Zack never failed to respond and always assisted promptly. He even provided advice and recommendations beyond his code of duty. For instance, advice on how to clean up stains of kitchen sink which I bought on my own account. He also advised on the changing of the cooking hood filter, and things to look out for when purchasing lightings, ceiling and wall fans, sofa, and other amenities. He also recommended entrance door stopper and household shelter rack suppliers when I approached him. Some designers would bring their clients shopping and earned commissions for the extra service. Whereas, Zack provided free-of-charge advices that should not be taken for granted as they were time-consuming, and of no obligations. In a nutshell, Zack is a gem, and you could rely on him, as much as I did. Zack has indeed greatly relieved my stress as a first-time homeowner, who has no idea of interior design and a non-homemaker but a career woman previously. He had provided mum and I a comfortable home that we are proud to share with our relatives, friends and acquaintances, and they all agreed that we have a beautiful home.
