Sincere and Responsible ID that Meets our Needs

Reviewed by Sharon Liu・Submitted 13 Jun 2022・ Project completed Apr 2022・Designer Tyler

ChengYi ID, as the name suggests, pride themselves in serving their customers with heart (they even have a company motto for it!) and we can gladly say they lived up to their name. From our first engagement with CYID in Sep/Oct 2021, Tyler had always listened to our requests and considered our ideas or requirements before advising accordingly. He was always honest about his opinions and what he can offer, which we felt was a key reason why our renovation process was such a smooth and successful one. First meeting We initially engaged 3 IDs to discuss preliminary ideas and budget for our renovation. Out of the 3 IDs, Tyler gave us the best impression in being a keen listener and one who can walk his talk (i.e. don't overpromise). He was also the only ID who provided us with both a quotation AND a SketchUp (3D) drawing for our home! Additionally, he clearly understood what we wanted and was able to capture all of our major requirements such as the layout of the furniture and the built-in features. We were really impressed by his efforts, despite not having officially engaged him as our ID yet. Reno shopping Tyler first brought us to shop for laminates and tiles at Lamitak and Hafary, which were rather overwhelming given the selection available. When we arrived at Lamitak, he was ready with his own choices to recommend based on what he envisioned our future home to be. We loved how he was able to make a wide spectrum of suggestions, including safe/practical ones and wild/fun ones! This was a recurring thing throughout the renovation process (i.e. door/gate/tiles design, paint colors, etc) and it was fun to see our ID invested in our project as well! Even for items which were not within his scope (i.e. louvre grills for windows, doors), he actively provided his views on what designs and colors would be suitable. Renovation and Timeline Tyler constantly provided us updates and the timeline for every phase of the renovation work. Generally, all works were finished within a reasonable timeframe, despite some delays here and there partly due to the tight market for contractors. Despite the extensive scope of our renovation (hack kitchen-living room walls, hack kitchen-service yard walls, hack all floors, redo 2 * bathrooms, replace all windows and doors, redo all electrical wiring), all works finished in 3 months including a 2-3 weeks break over Chinese New Year. Some notable works were the tiling (bathrooms and kitchen) and carpentry, they were really well done! We had no major complaints whatsoever over these works, the workmanship was simply awesome. Their electrical works deserve a special mention as well. The electrical contractor (Michael) engaged by CYID was really attentive and patient in going through with us the layout of the electrical equipment. Michael was really experienced in advising how the wires could be run, where the ideal positions are and made sure to catch the exact position of the lightings we agreed on. We were never once worried out the electrical works under him. Summary Tyler was really attentive to the details and constantly engaged us throughout the entire renovation process. We were so pleased with how he scheduled all the different works and managed the various contractors so well. He was able to turn what was initially a potentially stressful process for us into one which was exciting, engaging and fun! If we were to (somehow) embark on another renovation project in the future, we would definitely go back to ChengYi Interior Design and specifically ask for Tyler. Highly recommended ID, especially for the younger homeowners!
