Our experience in working with Starry Homestead for the renovation of our home has been a rewarding and positive one. Mr Jacky Loo proposed several designs to begin with, they served as good platform for discussion. Along the way, he gave us a lot of flexibility on implementing our own wish list. He helped turn our ideas into something tangible through his design knowledge and experience. When designing the space, Jacky Loo was incredibly efficient, he came up with innovative solutions to make the most out of our limited square footage. It was almost like a ‘bigger house’ transformation as everything seemed to fit perfectly into place. The way Jacky communicating and follow up were particularly impressive. He was assertive and honest with us about the timeline, costs and how she would go about planning and organizing the renovation. The team which he brought in were mostly meticulous and produce good quality works. In some rare cases which things did not go as per plan, we see he used his strength in communicate-with-assertiveness-and-tactfulness well to bring back team on track. We were never left in dark and he was able to provide solid answer to our questions. We see no excuse but sincerity to provide solution. Overall, his professionalism, assertiveness and knowledge were invaluable to the success of the project.

A beautiful minimalist 2 room BTO

A very big thanks to Chloe from Starry Homestead Paya Lebar for accompanying us on our renovation journey. Chloe is very attentive and patient with our requirements for our two room BTO unit. After initial discussions, she offered multiple designs and went over them with us before settling down on the final design. She accompanied us for fixtures and tiles selection and offered her advice on these occasions. During the implementation phase, Chloe keeps track of the schedule to ensure successful delivery of the project. Any deviations were communicated promptly and effectively with videos and photos. She also accommodated us on our multiple spur of the moment requests. After moving in, Chloe also helped to provide services such as touch ups to ensure the place looks as pristine as can be. The final product is truly outstanding. Everyone who visits the our place often praise the design and the workmanship that Chloe has helped to bring to fruition. We will definitely recommend Chloe to anyone who is looking for an interior designer.

Reviewed by Jun Hao・Submitted 19 Mar 2023・ Project completed Jun 2022・Designer Jing Yi

We engaged Starry Homestead about 1 year ago around Feb 2022 when we were about to collect our BTO keys. The ID assigned to us was Jing Yi from the Paya Lebar showroom. It was a pretty decent experience at first - replies were fast and follow ups were timely etc even though we didn’t have a very high budget. Hence, we decided to go with them after comparing a few IDs. As expected, things started going downhill once we signed the contract. Overall, project management of the whole renovation was super poor. Every time a job is done, we had to personally head down to our flat to check for errors, take photos and send them to the ID. So many issues with the jobs, but the ID never once pointed them out when she was there. We had to tell her and show her where all the errors were. Not sure if we hired a ID as a project manager to just someone to pass message lol.. It was a tiring 4-5 months.. Plenty of mistakes throughout the whole renovation, but I will just list down a few.. 1. There were only 3x 3D drawings allowed for the project and 2/3 of the drawings were wrong despite stating down clearly what we wanted to change for the next drawing. 2. 40% of the Carpentry works were nonsense. Did not follow the measurements as discussed and were different from the drawings provided etc. Laminate were poorly pasted, scratched, or broken. Huge gaps left behind the walls because they measured the dimensions wrongly. I am really not sure how they communicated with carpenter but there was at least 5-6 trips arranged to rectify the mistakes yet it was still not properly done. Best part is the ID can still send us photos as if the carpentry was intended to be like this. Decided to have them refund us partial of the money or else we will need to wait again. 3. Wrong installation of bathroom fittings. Another poor workmanship contractor that they are working with. My bathroom tiles have at least 4 holes that are left behind due to their wrong installation. And nothing was communicated to us, until we went down to check. Vanity cabinet was also installed wrongly for the 2 bathrooms, but ID argued that it was correct, even though we already labelled the items properly and send it over on WhatsApp. 4. I really don’t know why the ID went to arrange for a gas pipe installation when we already told her we will be using induction hob since the very start. Caused so much unnecessary holes on the kitchen/service yard walls and tiles… Throughout the months after moving in, we are still constantly spotting issues (faulty powerpoints, painting touch up etc) with the renovation and have to constantly contact the ID to arrange for their contractors to come down. As expected, replies are slow, had to constantly chase for her to reply and arrange. Until now, I still a kitchen tap replacement that is not settled since December. We have given up already. Just thought of sharing our personal experience with Starry Homestead.

My appointed designer is Roy. Selected Starry Homestead vas it was one of the highly accredited companies listed with very few negative reviews. After contacting the company, I was appointed Roy as my interior designer. He was professional and patient from the onset, unlike other designers we approached, he listened to our requirements, both budgetary and aesthetically, along with our daily needs. He also patiently answered all questions we had, as it we are first time homeowners. He was also patient and allowed us to research more on what other companies had to offer, before we committed to his proposals. His design offered a refreshing take on our requirement for an open kitchen concept, incorporating more aesthetic features such as built in display shelves, cove lights and magnetic lights. He also guided us thoroughly on material selection for the flooring, toilets, and tabletops to suit our needs as we have pets in the house. The renovation process itself exceeded expectations. We were initially given an estimated handover period of April, due to the Chinese New Year period, however, the job was done by end of February, with just some minor touch ups left. In fact, despite the very detailed and accurate 3D renderings done, my wife and I were both very pleasantly surprised when we saw the final outlook of the home. The materials and colours blended wonderfully, with the featured areas standing out nicely without overshadowing the rest of the home. Having Roy as our ID also put our minds at ease, as he would constantly monitor the workers' progress and ensure that everything was up to mark, checking with us whenever there were issues that arose. Thanks to him, we could really take a hands off approach and not worry constantly whether the house will be in a good condition at the end of the project. He also helped us to coordinate with our own external vendors/contractors, such as our aircon and internet service provider (ISP)'s installation. All in all, I would strongly recommend Starry Homestead, in particularly, Roy, as an interior designer. Would definitely engage them again for future home improvement projects.
